People who don't want us to sign Dzeko because of wage demands in this era of billion pound TV deals have so little ambition for the club it's a bit sad.
They're still living in the 70s. Little owld sunlun

Chris Young has tweeted quite a few times on Dzeko, stating personally that he doesn't believe the club would offer wages like that to a striker as old as he is.

He's just posted an article, swapping out his 'personal' views with 'Sunderland sources'. Clutching
That's him signing then......

Would be a great signing, simply from a player perspective. Still very doubtful due to the amount of financial hurdles that we would have to overcome.

We've released Danny Graham and Stephen Fletcher freeing up wages of around £80,000 per week probably.

Its only a little more than defoe and hes older

Had an American colleague laughing at how wound up we get on players salaries, in the US they publish the salary details for all the professional sports.
Not sure I'd be happy knowing we paid someone $30m a year right enough

Their wages are much higher

It's strange though in USA sport not all money is guaranted, only certain monies are. Like the nfl you might sign a $40m contract that only $12m of it is guaranteed, it's a strange way they do it.
Yeah, as an example Clayton Kershaw, starting pitcher for the Arizona Diamonbacks, Base salary $32m, Salary after bonuses $34.5m
http://www.spotrac.com/ lays out all the released salary information

And they have wage caps, it's why American sports are more open, one season you could be shit within a year or two you could win it all.
Cleveland Indians top salary is $103m yet the top the Central division of the American League
Detroit Tigers are 5th from 6 and spent $202m this season

Baseball doesn't have a salary cap though - thy use a luxury tax, so you can spend over the league limit, but you then pay a premium back to the league for it. Hence people like the Yankees and Red Sox will spend a lot more

Aye the oh so capitalist Americans run a fairly socialist sports system when you think of it. Salary cap, draft etc.

Imagine some lads are right fucked off when they get drafted for somewhere freezing like Minnesota (maybe not now they have that new stadium) or Green Bay

If they really really don't want to go there they can kick up a fuss and demand to be traded in extreme circumstances that is.

People can't complain about the money, what is it, 6 million a year?

What do we get in TV money now, 100m or something daft?

It's the cost of players now. If he bangs in 15+ and helps us move up the table he's worth every f***ing penny in a business sense.

Yes it's obscene in any normal scale, but this is the cost of quality. We're a big club and this is what we pay now. Don't like it, go watch some non-league

A little more? The mooted figure is double what Defoe's on.
Im pretty sure the quoted figure for Defoe when we swapped him Altidore was £90k are you telling me his new deal is a £40k pay cut?

Edit: just checked it was £80k
