RR “Here are FIVE players available on FREE TRANSFERS that Sunderland should look to sign...”

It's hard to continue to put faith in players who haven't performed - if there are genuine reasons for it then you have to be sure these are addressed - are they fully fit now and have a good chance of staying that way? Will Ross adapt the style of the team to play to their strengths? If the answer is probably no to either or both then now is the time to act not after we sack Ross in mid-October which is what will happen if our two strikers are on target to be our 8th and 10th highest scorers again. Let's remember Maja was one goal off scoring double what Grigg and Wyke did between them and Jack Baldwin was just one goal behind each of them. It took Cattermole less minutes per goal for his seven than it did for Wyke's four.

These sort of statistics would leave us mid-table at best. Doesn't matter what either has done before or could achieve under the right circumstances - just as a failure to have an adequate keeper put us down, failure to have an adequate front line will prevent us going up.

Might be stating the obvious, but surely they are on a free for a reason.
If your contract has run out why has your club not renewed it.

At league one level and below players are rarely offered anything more than two year deals. It’s far more common for players to move on Bosmans. I can’t speak for all the suggestions in the OP but Ishmail, for example, and the two names I mentioned, Curtis Nelson and Chuks Aneke have all been offered new contracts by their clubs.

Anyone in this league that's proved to be better than their club lets the contract expire to get a move. Basically just like Maja. Obviously that's not all of them, quite a few it is because they're shit but the likes of Aribo, for example, were never going to a sign a new contract.
