£45m on deeney and Keane

no I just meant players that would score more goal for less price surely they can do better for 3omill than someone who scored about 8 in open play

Surely it's more about what he brings into the team than just goals though? They may have indentified how much he helped Ighalo and think he's better than Ulloa and more suited to it than Okasaki. They could sign an out and out goalscorer, but they may want someone who fits into how they play alongside their players and whom fits into the same kind of team work ethic that made them Champions - they have to be very careful how they recruit. I personally think £25m and such is insane, but it might become pretty normal this summer and I can see why they'd want Deeney.

Schmeichel, Fuchs, Morgan and Drinkwater in some of them.

Not one of those.

I hear what you are saying but you cannot deny, Troy Deeney is not worth £30m FFS. That is utter madness, its also madness for Watford to turn it down.

I think Deeney is a very good player who is a big upgrade on Okazaki.

However the £30m fee seems absurd, I'm trying to justify it to myself by thinking if Walsh thinks he's worth it he probably is.

Have your own opinion man. That's what a football forum is about. Pointless just 'trusting' the scouts. He isn't worth 30m

Walsall get 20% of the fee, so that is obviously a factor. Though £30m for a 1 in 2.5 forward is mental and very scary.

I haven't seen enough of Deeney to have an informed opinion and I daresay neither have you, neither of us are qualified to say if he's worth £30m on one or two live games and watching Watford on the tele.

Also I'm trying to convince myself here that he is worth it. ;)

His primary role in the team isn't just to score goals so he shouldn't be solely judged on that.

He's the link man between Ighalo and the midfield.

The new TV deal is roughly double that of the previous one. Most of the money in football goes to transfers and wages. With this in mind, surely the £30 million being touted for Deeney is the equivalent of £15 million in the previous 2 or 3 seasons? Seems like a reasonable transfer fee to me.

He's had one pretty impressive season in the Premier League, doesn't really equate to £30 million. 6 of his 13 goals were penalties and I'm guessing he won't be taking them if he moves to Leicester.

I think he'd be a decent signing to be honest, but I wouldn't say his value is anywhere near £30 million after one Premier League season at the age of 28.

Well only seven players contributed to more goals than him in the PL last season, he's Watford's best player, he's better than bang average.

I'm not saying 30m isn't excessive but that could be with lots of add ons like Leicester retaining the PL or getting to the Semi Final of the CL, we don't know but I doubt it's £30m in cash.
I seen him last season. He is a limited player. Not having a dig at you's for wanting him just saying that Splurting alot of your budget on a troy deeney could be the signing that totally wrecks any plans to progress long term. Alternativelu you's could buy other players who are spot on and it becomes irrelevant. From experience it can royally fuck things up

That's your opinion are you're entitled to it but it's not a qualified opinion, you've made based on not much at all pretty much like all of us.

What I will say as evidence to his worth:

1) The Watford board have refused the offer
2) The Watford fans don't want to sell him even at that price
3) Ranieri, Walsh and the Leicester board think he's worth it.

This is the same Steve Walsh who bought in:
7 of the Leicester XI in at £1m or less each including Mahrez & Vardy
1 at £2m
1 at £3m
N'Golo Kante at £5.6m

You have to have some doubt that your Deeney opinion may be wrong when Walsh wants him at £30m?

Honestly, I could make a case for half our team getting in some of those sides.

Mahrez & Kante in every one.
Vardy in most of them.
Schmeichel, Fuchs, Morgan and Drinkwater in some of them.
And I could could make a case for some of the Sunderland players,I sound like a fuckin idiot but I could make some points

Deeney is never a top 6 player. He will at best be top half premier league player. He is a work horse and lacks in alot of areas for quality. Fair play if you's can make him fit in to your champions league challenging side. Has steve walsh never signed a shite player like?!

Don't know who Walsh is but he seems to have done a good job the last few years,as did the mag scout when he discovered fuckin France  these cheap buys will never be a long term success plan.now he has some serious financial clout and arguably a strong case to put forward joining your club(CL) I'd personally an to be hearing better names tan deeney for 30mil.....you can have catts for 25mil

I'm not happy about the fee, I'd have the player all day long as I think he would fit our team like a glove but for £30m I'd want Messi.

And you're right I am trying to convince myself but the fact that Walsh wants him and Watford don't want to sell is comforting and maybe he's a lot better than we give him credit for. After all only seven players in the PL contributed to more goals than he did last season.

I agree, I was hoping our summer transfer buys would whet the appetite more than Deeney. Walsh did say in an interview when we picked the PL trophy up that Ranieri and himself have talked about the transfer policy and they wanted to continue with the same model and no Billy Big Bollocks will be signed.

Buying Deeney for £30m looks awful on the face of it but Walsh at least deserves some respect for his opinion looking at his previous buys before we write Deeney off as a dud.

Would be a decent signing for us. At about the 10 million mark.

Scored loads of pens last season..... I genuinely wouldn't be too excited if we were signing him

30 million quid is laughable mind
