In fact, I'd argue your lots neglegence in assessing a lot of these factors in last summers recruitment is a big reason for your demise. A number of the players you signed had great ability and reputation but many could see how poor a fit they were for the Premier League and Villa as a side/club.

Had nothing to do with it. Our problem was that we over night tried to revert to a moneyball philosophy and essentially buy a new squad over a single summer. A bit like you did with PDC. Didn't end well in either accounts.

Loads of similarities to De Fanti's (/Di Canio's) spree with us, I agree. But I think if either club had done it properly with a proper scout, such as Walsh, considering all those factors I mentioned above rather than purely shallow, face value assessments then there's no reason why it couldn't have been successful.

Recruitment is the most important thing in football by a mile.

Leicester buy Mahrez, Vardy & Kante for £7m combined and win the league, Villa spend £50m and get relegated as one of the worst teams ever to grace the PL.

I would imagine Leicester will drop their interest in Deeney now that Vardy has re-signed
I suspect they'll have known for a while that we was at least interested in discussing a new contract and I'd have thought they were looking at Deeney to play the Okazaki/Ulloa role rather than a direct replacement for Vardy.

They will certainly need a bigger squad.

Deeney was never a replacement for Vardy but as a strike partner, they have completely different skill sets.

2/1 finish bottom half might have some of that

Fill yer boots lad, what an absolute mug of a bet.

2/1 for the Champions of England who cruised it by 10pts to finish in the bottom half. It's bets like these and punters like you is the reason people termed the phrase "you never see a poor bookie". You'd be better off donating the money to a Sunderland kids charity. ;)
