The Master Plan for the future of South Shields demonstrates how improved links between the Town Centre, Riverside and Foreshore will result in a positive visitor experience, and an altogether more cohesive and functional Town.

Master Plan in Brief:

  1. A new Central Library and Digital Media Centre
  2. Provide an enhanced market offer
  3. Provide a new central consolidated travel interchange
  4. Improve the retail and leisure offer in the town
  5. Potential new supermarket
Once complete these plans will result in a Town Centre with stronger connectivity which will enhance the area and encourage visitors to stay for longer.

We will work with Muse Developments to deliver these improvements over the next 10 years to ensure that, in 20 years from now, South Shields will be:

  • An attractive and vibrant town, recognised nationally as a place where people will choose to live, do business, visit and spend their holiday time
  • A place where the quality of life and place will attract investment and which has a range of services and activities, which are second to none.
"The new marketplace will feature stackable stalls to enable traders to operate a multi-storey venture," said a spokesman for South Tyneside Council. "These stalls will retract neatly into the ground when not in use to open up the market square for live theatre, musicals and sporting events.

"Travelators will carry workers and shoppers between the Metro, bus and ferry terminals as well as ASDA, Morrisons, a potential new supermarket and at least three different branches of Greggs.

"The new library and media centre will offer people the chance to read books from all around the world. The new technology we are investing in will mean that people will be able to read, in English, books by foreign authors before they have even been translated. A few people have remarked that the building resembles something like a spaceship. There's a good reason for that, but the Official Secrets Act prohibits me from discussing why."

No mention of a new college campus though. :(

Good news for the lazy fuckers haha

Now we know where the 2022 World Cup will be switched to. Got the nice cool weather and better sand than any Arabian place.

It will be a thing of shining beauty befitting such a cultural icon of seaside Britain. Get in.

Doesn't need a new college.
