No-one said we should spend all of the money we've brought in. We merely said there are funds available to spend if need be. We require a capable striker and have done since Bent left. Now even more so as we no longer have Gyan and Bendtner is currently injured.

The mags have proven it doesn't take daft money to bring in a striker if we look a little further afield. There's no reason why we couldn't bring in a quality striker within a £10m budget. But then again, it's all down to ambition.

I think it is more down to whether or not we actually have the £10m in the first place. In the last 2 years we have posted total losses of about £50m. Can't carry on like that.

We shouldn't be making any assumptions really. Look around the Premier League this window. Very little money being spent at all. Times are changing.

If Short has told Mon hes got money now and money in the summer...then we would have bought 3 players by now...we've never been rumoured to be buying a £10m man yet..
I reckon he can spend now..but its part of his general budget for next year..

Reckon you're on the button there. Short has shown himself to be averse to spending in January. Plus with all that money tied up in Gyan I think it just doesn't make sense to bladder a load on another big name forward this window - hence the short term options being considered. I'm certain we could but I'm fairly sure we don't want to.

I don't that's necessarily true mate. If MO'N has money to spend now, that money will surely be added to the budget he'll be given in the summer. He obviously likes what he sees and feels the squad have enough in them. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a couple of targets in mind, if he doesn't get them, he'll play the waiting game.

There's no point in panic buying but I hope he does have an idea of who he wants to bring in to improve the first team. Not just bring in players as a stop-gap.

Davies would not be good value for two year contract.

We signed Sessegnon last January and Muntari wasn't cheap (loan fee and wages).

Clueless

This is why I think a potentially very good player like Almeida or Barrios would be considered at the right price, just as Sessegnon represented excellent value last January. If they're not available, or too highly valued or go elsewhere, someone like Davies would be a decent short term measure, assuming a short(ish) contract could be offered etc.

Think Davies is just one of a few options...the others as rumoured...are abroad...nee idea but the one for £3m or on loan...Turkish ??...might be the prime target....hes 27 yo..

I agree but what teams around us have sold two players for a fee in the region of £30-40m? Yes it's not paid up front but we will receive the money over a period of time.

My main concern is that for years he has been the man for Bolton. The fact that he can not even get in a struggling team this year shows how far he has went back. Would have loved him here a few year back but now? Not so sure.

What has he done this year?

Why is the last year so important? So you can ignore his England call up in October, 2010?

I agree. I just hope we're in for someone like Barrios. Dortmund have after all just signed Reus for around £15m.

Haway man. England were desperate and we have been struggling up front for years now. It really isn't such the accolade you make it out to be. Even Gavin McCann earned an England cap. It means nothing unless you're being called up on a regular basis.

Read all the posts and i'm with gipetto on this one(for a change) if he can't get into a poor Bolton side, who play with wide men like Eagles and Petrov,i just don't see the point of signing him,he's never been a world beater and like Heskey he's basically finished, the fact they pulled out of offering him a contract says it all for me,would rather use Ji or Connor and get them up to speed for next season. Barrios or Almeida would be great signings though.

Yes. He should not have been called up. He is ageing massivly and has lost so much. If he can not get in Boltons team at the moment then he shouldnt be getting in ours.

That's a pretty binary analysis. Bolton are beneath us in the league but we have a system and Davies would fit into it therefore his potential value to us cannot be gauged by looking at whether Bolton are currently picking him or not.

I thought he'd signed mate but you're right. Has agreed to join in the summer.

Different positions anyway, so not sure whether him signing would impact on their willingness to let Barrios go. They may want to make up funds for the outgoings on him anyway.
