I just don't agree. Up to the point he was moved up front he produced the square root of fuck all by way of tangible results. The rest of my post stands.

Because up until he was moved up front we had no-one up front did we? Gyan was going through the motions and was already looking uninterested. Bent had left. Welbeck was injured.

Soon Gyan was injured. Not to mention Bruce had lost the plot by that stage. Sessegnon looked great from the get go. He had a very good debut against Spurs? And I went to his first away game against Stoke where he ran the show.

Are people just getting their knickers in a twist over paper talk?

Hope so. Posted this on the other Davies thread:

What Bolton fans think of him:

http://www.the-wanderer.co.uk/boards...hp?f=4&t=22880

"Did not miss him one bit. He's been a burden on the team for far, far too long and we are MUCH better without him."

"Nowt more than a squad player now though. We have to manage this diplomatically, the man is up there with Supa. Who also reached his sell-by, because thats what football players do."

"Been bad so far this season. Very. But he's given more to BWFC than most in the last decade. club legend"

"Agree with all that mate, skd is a hindrance to the team these days because his legs have gone at this level you can't have a 50p head and hooves has feet in the premiership. I appreciate what he has done for the club over the years but we need to move on."

And more:

"His heading ability is non existent, his headers are here there and everywhere. So thats a 50p head haha!"

"It's hard this because I love the man. He has been a great servant for us. But we have to admit to ourselves now that we can no longer rely on him.
We were much better tonight without him and it's time to move on.

Hope he will stick around at the club when his career is up."

"Not only can we not rely on him his presence on the pitch is detrimental to us as an attacking and defensive force.

Legend is right. But he's finished in terms of usefulness and needs to be let go."

"Simply Davies and Klasnic should NEVER EVER EVER be picked together again, too predictable, too slow and too easy to play a high line and squeeze against...

Now Klasnic is looking sharper and better and a bigger goal threat than Kev Davies right now...

Davies can still play a role this season if he chooses though. Off the bench, starting when Klasnic needs a rest etc....He can also be a leader, even from the bench, if he chooses.

I hope he sorts himself out because he has been such a crucial part of our time in the premiership, it would be a shame if our memories of him were as a sulky, disinterested, trouble making ageing slowing war horse."

Aye, but he'll become a good player all over again if it's only a short term deal.

Not sure how true it is and I've largely stopped paying attention to transfer rumours now.

What I will say is that Kevin Davies won't be a brilliant signing but will 'do a job' as it were. Not really adding to what others have said but even if he came in, was absolutely shit and barely played... I think it would be worth it if he could teach Wickham to be an absolutely horrible bastard. He could become the type of player centre halves have nightmares about.

For all those saying 'we should buy someone better, man!', can I just ask... why are they just assuming we have the money to be able to do that?

Bent's sale, Henderson's sale and losing Gyan for a loan worth £6m. Also the promise that we would replace Bent and that funds would be available during the January transfer window.

Sacking Bruce and his team, and then employing O'Neill, will have cost a significant amount of money. If there is better than Davies available at a reasonable price, we'll sign them. I reckon we'll be looking to avoid the usual January madness.

Good point.

Some great deals can be done in January also. There's no reason why we couldn't come out of this with enough quality to put our all into finishing as high as we can. And dare I say it, in a European place.

What's more, signing a player from abroad would mean they could play in the cup (providing we're still in it). I think Davies will be cup-tied.

OK, so we spend every penny of the Bent money (some of which we haven't even received yet) and Henderson money on transfer fees? How do we then address the £20m+ loss we have been posting every year and the bosmans etc?

Newcastle have proved there is some relatively (potentially) decent value available. Almeida for £3m or an out of favour/cut price Barrios would also. I assume cash would be available for these types of player at the right price. Davies would be a back up if the club feel there's no players available at the right price. That's how I see it anyway. We might just have nowt to spend. The number of trialists we've had suggests we'll not be shelling much, if anything out.

No-one said we should spend all of the money we've brought in. We merely said there are funds available to spend if need be. We require a capable striker and have done since Bent left. Now even more so as we no longer have Gyan and Bendtner is currently injured.

The mags have proven it doesn't take daft money to bring in a striker if we look a little further afield. There's no reason why we couldn't bring in a quality striker within a £10m budget. But then again, it's all down to ambition.

Sign of things to come for Sunderland? We got relegated of buying players with nothing to prove with their best years behind them.

short term..... a class signing imo

"class" you read the Bolton fans thoughts on him? If not, I suggest you do.
We all thought Diouff was going to be a canny signing, the majority of them on that board weren't bothered he was leaving as he hadn't been doing the business. They were proven to be right.

If Short has told Mon hes got money now and money in the summer...then we would have bought 3 players by now...we've never been rumoured to be buying a £10m man yet..
I reckon he can spend now..but its part of his general budget for next year..
