£0 Spent on transfers

Me for one. I'd rather we sorted out the finances in the short-term than piss away money we don't have in order to stay in a division with no additional financial benefits over the one below.

Its all in the past now

The Texan Coward has already stopped playing with his toys

Do you people not realise we're 100m+ in debt and can't buy anyone?

If you wanted a bag of crisps but you had no money what would you do? Cry about it? Blame your mam for not giving you more pocketmoney even though you spunked the last lot?

People are so f***ing dumb on this board it annoys me sometimes.

WE HAVE NO MONEY!!!!!!
That's not true. We have an income and we have debt. We have 2 choices pay as much off the debt regardless of the state of the team. Or we could pay a lot off the debt but put a small but realistic amount into the team. Say 5-10m max. Paying that extra amount off 100m debt will make little difference. Even less if we go down again.

Using your terms we're in loads of debt and we could pay all our income off that debt but that would be silly as we need food and a roof over our head. So we spend some to survive and service the debt to a point that we're not risking our survival.

Spot on mate.
We simply cannot offer a contract to anyone now.
The players out on loan will fetch fuck all in the market for us.
It will be down to the tossers that are already here, young uns and more loans next season

I think the problem at the moment is that our income is still less than our expenditure.

I know it is easy to direct hatred at Short given our current plight. I genuinely believe he fell in love with the club but left his business brains at the door and allowed emotions to effect his decision making.

He made mistake after mistake in appointments of managers, DOF and CEO and CFO,s but always with the intention of competing in the upper half of the Premier League.

As we know that failed miserably and now the chickens have come home to roost and the debt needs to be addressed.

However his biggest mistake of all is appointing the former male model/barman and giving him free reign when he has no track record of turning around the finances of a football club.

Bain should have directed a percentage of incoming transfer fees to outgoing transfer fees should have sacked Moyes after his relegation comments and never have appointed Grayson. Under his tenure the club is dying a slow painful death and an air of defeatism permeates throughout the club and transcends onto the pitch.

If Short is to make one final throw of the dice, he needs to sack the dour, underperforming male model and give the club a lift
How do you know he’s underperforming? As unpalatable as it is, he’s probably doing exactly what he’s been told to do.

and that certainly won't rise if we go to League 1, despite claims on here that it'll make no difference financially.
I guess if you look at it purely financially the question is how much income do you lose versus how much it would cost to stay up.
My guess and it is a guess is that spending £5-£10m on transfers plus committing to wages firstly might not be enough and secondly is probably more than we would gain by staying up.
It’s really shit that we have ended up here but chasing premier league survival by throwing a bit more money at it is largely what got us in this position.

We also have a wage bill that was over 70% of the club turnover. Even if Short loaned us another 10m, it means we're taking on another wage. 10m players don't agree to less than 60k a week, we can't afford that.

It's not just funds to buy players it's funds to pay their wages for 4 years. How will we pay a 60k a week striker if we get relegated? It's a huge risk. The current debt is gonna take us 10 years to pay off ffs.

We're right up shit creek with no easy solutions, mate. I can't defend Short for the mess we're in, I understand people want to get out of the mess, but I also realise that money is our worst f***ing enemy at the minute. Throwing more money at this shithouse of a team is a very bad idea imo.

As is adding a boatload of more shite to this steaming pile of manure, which is what we've done this season.

Is there an actual external prohibition on SAFC spending money on fees for players who would have improved the quality of its squad, or is not spending a matter of choice ?

If there is some Financial Fair Play regulation the prevents the club from further significant spending on players, then so be it.

However, I suspect that the embargo is self-imposed.

There can be no doubt that Short has injected an awful lot of his own money into the business that he chose to buy. He also has a record of converting monies that he loaned to the club into share capital and presumably could have done so again to significantly reduce the current debt burden. Not to do so is therefore seemingly a matter of choice.

It is also worth remembering that he appears to be his own business’ major creditor.

Has the money Short invested been largely wasted ? Undoubtedly.

Who has been the person ultimately responsible for overseeing that waste ? Short himself, through the appointment of the likes of De Fanti and Congleton.

Do you think Chelsea fans spend their time worrying about the £1 billion they are supposedly in debt to Abramovich for ? I doubt that they do, because Abramovich appears to have an on-going interest in his plat-thing. Short appears to have chosen to discard his own toy.

SAFC is not really ‘our club’, it is just a business owned by Ellis Short and one that, notwithstanding the large amount of money he has already expended, he is now starving of adequate funds with obvious consequences.

The big risk is going into league one. Not only will Short have no chance of selling, the income drops and we’re still left with wankers like Rodwell on massive contracts and refusing to go. Add to that the players out of contract or on loan who go back, we haven’t got a squad so would have to invest anyway next season

I’d personally accept going down if we had an owner committed to rebuilding over the next few years. We don’t.

How much will income drop going in to league 1?
Cheaper or at least should be to build a competitive league 1 squad than a championship. Hopefully with the income from players out on loan we might have some more room for manoeuvre financially but that’s clutching at straws somewhat.

As someone stated earlier on this thread, about half of it was from his own pocket. He wrote off £100m completely or we'd have twice as much debt right now as we do.

It's probably going to take us a couple of years to become self-sufficient so it really doesn't matter which division we're in next season.
You are an utter balloon !!!

Didnt we all say this year would be easier to do well

Not sure how much income drops but it will especially if we’re down there for years, matchday income and corporate will drop imo, will be harder to sell & get decent money as everyone knows we’re in the shit and apart from that we haven’t got that much left to sell.

Like i said if we had an owner to rebuild over a few years i’d take it, i honestly don’t think we do though

There is a huge drop in income between premier league and championship though that’s the difference.
Not sure what you mean by an owner to rebuild? If we can get to a point when we are self sufficient the owner becomes less important. However ours has shown no aptitude for selecting a good strategy so not sure why that would change in any league.

An owner who gives a shit amd wants to be here, i dont think Short does
