Why do I love the German national anthem so much?

some of his very strong views were questionable but my point was trying to put them in context whereby they were willing to die for their country, volunteered for it and these very strong feelings were likened by some to Fascism but as per your description there he was trying to free his people from Fascism and thanks to him it largely was within a few years and just before my father was able to be born an Irish man

I know its not a popular opinion because everyone shits on them, when's done properly I feel the Star Spangled Banner stands up to any anthem in the world (starts at 00:42)

His views were blood and soil. The Nazis were blood and soil and their narrative was one of international oppression via treaties and reparations.

Somehow I'm not at all surprised that I've made you defend a fascist, perhaps you need to take a break.

if only Guinness hadn't donated his trucks with converted boilers on the back as armoured cars for the British army he might have done a lot better
they did fine, the biggest number of casualties were British (Irish) citzens murdered by the British Army, next biggest were British soldiers, with the Irish Republicans coming in lowest number

they surrendered because they didn't want the British Army killing more civilians, and I think Pearse thought it would just be him executed, certainly not so many more of his men

yes he was all about the blood and soil and the need for it to get rid of English out of Ireland

he was not in his actions prepared to sacrifice the innocent civilians being murdered by the British Army though was he? he surrendered and gave up his life in the hope of sparing theirs

it is a typically lazy interpretation to label that as proto fascism when he was in fact desperate to get Ireland out from under fascist English rule
