Jay Spearing

Are people still fuming about a signing that isn't happening?

He's Parkios number one target, the one the club think will win over the fans. Shame he's turned his old boss down after meeting but being deeply unimpressed with Donald and Rodwell and their obvious lack of ambition oh and penny pinching too, they made him pay for his sandwich.

While you are generally correct it is wise to look at a list of criteria that we need as listed by Parko - tall, physical and young legs - and you will find that none of them apply to Spearing. He couldnt even get in the Blackpool side. If you could think of one reason why he would be worth signing, without resorting to the blatant mistruths that Summerbee does, I'd be interested.

I will find none of that applies to him? I will right now yes.

And you know all this about him because..

I am guessing it is because you spend way too much time looking at a screen researching the career of every professional player currently playing like the nerd you are. Am I correct?

I had never heard of this player before he became linked so don't you go wildly accusing me of spreading mistruths about him. So I don't know how you can seem to know everything about him and every other EFL player.

No mate, I've seen him play for Liverpool, I've seen him play for Blackpool at the SOL either this season or last, Ive seen him other times on the TV and Ive read comments on here from Blackpool fans on this very thread. I know exactly what sort of player Spearing is. Im surprised you dont. More into cricket are you?

Its that sneaking suspicion that people from the club read this and we can influence them away from such stupid decision :D . A vain hope but this regime is so amateurish that it could almost be true. Unfortunately laughing boy Parkinson has already mentioned Alnwick.

Alnwick will be a perfectly adequate signing at this level. People need a reality check - we are now a L1 club on a L1 budget

Another monumental cock up if its true🤣🤣😂🤣

Yawn. It’s a discussion board where in this thread people are discussing a news article about a possible signing. If you don’t like it, you know what to do.
No, it's a discussion board where a growing number of people love to fewm at every possible story in the papers, taking anything negative as gospel

If you don't like my "discussion" then you know what to do

He's not man

I hope to god your right.
The same paper that mentioned him as a possible signing (based on 0% fact) has also now said he isn't signing

The Black Cats have also been linked with a couple of other players over the weekend, with midfielder Jay Spearing and Ipswich winger Gwion Edwards put forward as potential targets.

But neither player is understood to be amongst the names being considered.

He's never been very good. The problem is Burge is probably not as good as McLaughlin and he will be 1st choice. Alnwick is not as good as Burge. So, in effect, we have weakened our squad. To me this would be typical lazy scouting. There will be plenty of keepers out there who fit our budget and who are better than Alnwick.

I think you have to wait and see before you can make such judgements. Burge barely played last season, but look competent when he did. Alnwick is an experienced Championship/League One keeper. I have no qualms at all about him joining (apart from him being a bit of a cock off the field by all reports)

People seem to be forgetting that McLaughlin costs us at least 2 games early in the season with his indecision and poor judgement. As is typical with this place, as soon as a player leaves he becomes better than Pele and it's a travesty that we 'allowed' him to go

Yes, fair comments. McLaughlin was good overall but had a dip. Additionally, Burge probably deserves a chance. I have big doubts about Alnwick and do think it would be a lazy signing.

Define "lazy signing"? - I think it's a perfect signing - experienced, will be happy as no.2, knows the area, knows the club, won't cost the earth and, having played over 200 games at this level should be able to step into the breach if and when required. It would tick a box early on in the summer and allow us to focus on other areas of the squad.

Again fair comment.
