First Illegal and Legal Drinks Purchased in a Pub/Bar

Illegal, The Torrens, age 16, and advised by my (younger) friend to try a pint of 'half & half'
32p ish, I think???

Legal, Dray & Horses maybe?

Illegal, Farmers Rest Newcastle Haymarket. I'd have been 14. Asked for two pints of brown ale. Barmaid asked if bottles would do to guffaws around the bar. Still got served.

Legal, Red Lion Belington. My 18th birthday on a Monday night. Had a pint in most of the pubs along Belington front Street. It had been our regular Friday out for at least a year.

Me and a couple of mates had become regulars in the William in Birtley, usually just us in the back room midweek, playing pool. We went in to celebrate one of my mates birthdays. After a few, the landlord comes over with a round of drinks, saying, "you've been drinking in my pub for about a year, well at least its legal now, this ones on me"

We didn't have the heart to tell him we were celebrating a 17th

Illegal: three pints of stones in Jollies circa 1994 or 1995. Barfed on the pavement outside

Legal: the Barnes on my 18th (not the first time I’d been in by a long shot). The lads bought me a pint to down, but I didn’t know it was a half topped up with whiskey. Barfed again.

Illegal would have been one of the pubs in Ponteland, aged 16-17. Full makeup and high heels. Possibly cider.
Legal - when I was 18 and a student and my friend and I were both in duffel coats and makeup free. Though we were chucked out once for not looking over 18. Can't remember the name of the pub - in Newcastle, Princess Square.

Must be shite for the aspiring illegal drinker these days. Turned out regular in the 90’s age 16-17 and don’t recall ID ever being a big issue for me or mates. You see lads and lasses getting ID’d now that look comfortably in their 20’s!

Illegal - Drop Kick, Low Moor, Bradford - 16 years old, mates parents were regular drinkers and pool players there, we had to sit in the corner and say nowt

Legal - Drop Kick, Low Moor, Bradford - Since they'd let us drink there for 2 years underage, seemed the obvious place to start my Birthday piss up

Illegal: 16, Mill House on the edge of Washington. Some mates came round excited to give it a go. Made me go and put a shirt on to look smart like them. The Mill was a bit of a dive. Loads of chat about how to act etc. Was served by a class mate who knew exactly how old we were.

Legal: The Ivy House. I was the last of my mates to turn 18. The bar maid knew my usual as I walked up to the bar.

I got ID'd in sainsburys a couple of weeks ago, bearing in mind I'm 31 and had a cracking lockdown beard going on. She wasn't too impressed when I asked if the grey hairs in my beard were proof enough, luckily had my drivers license on me

Illegal - some Sammy Smiths muck from The Colpitts in Durham

Legal - pint of fizzy lager from The Queens Head in Lanchester (now a block of flats)
