Logan Pye

Parents though scootsie they should be pointing out the asoro ,maja. soon benji how their careers are panning out .I know maja gone to a decent club but would have done better staying here and play regularly with us .

There is no way in the world you will ever know if that statement is true. The coaches at Bordeaux may suit his play far far better than ours ever would have and playing/training with the first team players there might be helping way more than playing with Wyke and Ozturk

A big squad full of mediocre senior players and senior pros playing out of position. Same old same old and won’t help sell the club to talented kids.

Eh? It seems to be we are doing a pretty good job bringing the few decent prospects we have in the academy into the first team whenever possible.

We have also signed some promising younger players from other clubs at this level who are important first team players now.

Think you're barking up the wrong tree and don't know who you think should have been given a chance that hasn't.

I reckon our first team squad is 2 or 3 too big. Also I don’t see which promising younger players we’ve brought in other than Dobson. Young players will look at what has happened with Mumba and Kimpioka and wonder if there’s much of a chance for them. There’s certainly little chance to make the occasional bench. There are young players getting first team minutes up and down the country. There’s a 16 year old tearing it up for Birmingham in the league above. Like it or not, if we want to keep promising young players like Pye away from the big boys, we need to make it bloody obvious to them that the pathway to the first team exists.

Totally agreed.

I also think we need a rethink regarding the u18 and u23 age groups. The u18s where beated 10 - 0 the other day by Everton, theres no way should we be 10 goals worse than another cat 1 team. We seem to be very competitive u16 and below but when they reach u18 poor.

Results at these levels really don’t bother me - though ten goals is certainly jarring. I wonder if we are suffering for physical characteristics from these ages a little - particularly if we’re pushing younger players up the age groups. It might just be that we’ve got too much wheat in with the chaff.

To return to the first team, another issue with them is our formation. 4-2-3-1 is a formation for individuals, not a team. It places too much emphasis on single players and specialists and doesn’t afford protection to younger players making their way. It also inflates your squad size. Just another reason we should bin off this formation for arseholes and go to a much more flexible and accommodating 4-3-3.

We should have a clear path to the first team in this league, don’t really appear to enough. Can’t imagine that helps us keep youngsters.
For that to work the whole club need to be singing from the same hymn sheet. 1 system with every team at every level playing the same. Then the 1st team should have a squad of 22 (2 players for every position) with the u23's effectively 3rd choice, no players playing out of position when there's injuries/suspension just take from the next team down.
Of course this breaks down if the u23 manager has other ideas! Hume missed both cup games this season so McLaughlin was played out of position. The u23 LB should have been called upon only Dickman has decided to start playing him CF despite a successful loan last season playing LB for Darlington and is playing a right footed CM there instead 🤦‍♂️

Cant create a 5-year plan apparently, it's unobtainable due to a new manager may appear and want to do things differently.

Maja went to a better club and is doing well, probably valued at as much as our first team. Asoro went to a higher division to earn more money, shows ambition and whilst it hasn't worked out yet, will go on to have a decent career. Benji hasn't been given a contract.

None of them were provided suitable conditions to stay at the club.

Whilst I don't disagree results aren't everything at this level, any player with a massive will to win, won't stick around in a team that loses every other week.

Is it not because we’re losing all our best players before they hit 16. We’ve lost about 5 already to the likes of arsenal and Liverpool. It makes a complete mockery of the academy system that we can lose the players for buttons. What’s the point in even having a cat 1 academy if we lose our best prospects for nothing.

You don’t develop kids with lazy soundbites marra;)

They will if they’re training with - and maybe appearing for - the first team. There’s certainly no incentive if you’re 16, hugely talented, getting whipped for the youth teams and looking at Elliot Embleton thinking “I’m four years away from getting occasional sympathy minutes off the bench”.

How are our young players careers panning out? Kimpioka is still here, hardly a shining example to put out of remaining. Hardly any of our youngsters get anywhere near playing.

Would have though he would have a better chance of breaking into SAFC first team squad than Arsenal's?
Unless its all Just About The Money (fair enough if it is; his choice)?

Delia Smith has just been on the radio (sounding sober) and when asked how they have been able to keep hold of their best young players, said she asked their head of academy the same question and he replied "keep bringing them on". So, hopefully, our young uns keep getting chances and see us as a viable option for their careers, particularly if we are taken over and achieve promotion.

And there is the answer. A genuine pathway to the 1st. A strategy where we focus on developing our youth players. Jack Ross wont buy into this strategy

Can it not be about ambition or the chance to work with better coaches or maybe he doesn't feel his current club treats him well enough to forgo the prior. Maybe he doesn't trust his current club to be able to handle a young players career or that their focus doesn't align with his?
