Painful toes

I've been walking and jogging out doors a lot over the last few weeks, doing 10k per day, my toenails are killing, it doesn't happen if I'm doing it on a treadmill, any ideas what it is and how to sort it?

Could be impact based.....are you just running on toes rather than toe to heel rolling foot.

Can cause swelling of toes, so it fills with fluid to protect toes and they swell into the toenails.

Happen'd to me and had to have all my toenails removed with Operation as could not walk in agony!

If it only happens on concrete or track....it is impact based as same motionon treadmill but so hard on feet.

Other option get a better harder and more durable running shoe with sorbothone insoles. Will assist with impact on harder ground!

f***ing hell I don't want to get the nails removed, I will give it a miss tomorrow, I will dig my old running shoes out the ones I've been using are not as good I've got massive blisters on my feet as well from them. It's stones, rocks and desert that I've been running on too very uneven surfaces.

Your running shoes are the wrong size, probably too small. You don't feel it on a treadmill because the belt gives you a softer & consistent landing & propels the road towards you but on pavements/roads & particularly trails each footfall can be slightly different & you have to push off harder to maintain pace.

Definately your trainers.....you obviously need better quality shoes and not cheap crap.

Try and get some similar to replace old ones and break them in before running in them. Just wear round the house a few times to shape to feet.

Throw that pair away... should not be getting blisters from a correctly fitted shoe irrespective of mileage!

Aye the ones I've been using are Nike and only about £60, but my old Adidas ones were about £120, I'll try the old ones today see how I get on.

I've just done 8k in my old running shoes and it's much better, the blisters are hurting but that's probably from yesterday.

Price has very little to do with it. So far this year I've raced 2 Marathons, a 20 Miler, a 16 Miler, 4 ½ Marathons, 4 10Ks, 2 5Milers & 15 or so parkruns & I've done the majority of my training mileage for them in £38 New Balance shoes but they fit properly so I've had no issues.

You must be a fit fucker, the Nike ones feel comfortable even when I'm running but it's just when I get home i start to feel the pain, the Adidas ones in the photo feel like I've not got anything on my feet they are really comfy but they are getting old, I think I might buy a new set. Any advice on the blisters situation, I usually just pop them or they pop in my shoes but I dont treat them with anything.

The blisters are another symptom of poor fitting shoes.

It may be that Nike are not the correct make and fit for your feet, when fit I used run to a minimum of 70 or sometimes 100 miles per week including fartleck training over many different terrains.. I used to run in New Balance or High Tec, only tried Nike once, no twice and I was in bits with them, they went in the bin.

Just not suited to me, the fit was ok, but changed my stride and tread and pronation. Actually went to a running shop who checked my gait on the flat and treadmill, recommended New Balance. Bought them and a High Tec, and never ever changed from those brands again for over 30 years. new shoes often but always same brands! Don't let cost be an issue can always buy cheaper online or Marts!

Done Marathons and Half Marathons all over the world wherever based, no issues at all. well not with the shoes had assorted leg injuries due to Armed Forces messing up boots with a seam running straight down the Achilles tendons resulting in decompression Ops both legs - the twats! Hope you get sorted fella, best ever running and blowing out the cobwebs.....really miss being able to do that now like!

If you have a shoe that works stay with it fella! saves all the grief your getting!

Thanks mate, I need some new insoles for my old running shoes, but they are very comfortable, I think when they are totally gone I will get a new set, if I'm home I will go to the shop that look at the way you run as you suggested. When I was running a couple of years ago and using them old running shoes I never got a blister or toe pain.

Get proper running socks which have two layers. Not cheap but worth it.try wright socks .
Alternatively you can get very light liner socks to wear inside your normal socks - I use those for hiking.
