Anyone done Sedgefield parkrun & if so is it most suitable for roadies, trailers or spikes?

Aye. Only just squeaked in last year. Seems to be a lot of organised queueing where a group will all open a session each & 1st to the front gets them for the whole group.
I've done Sedgefield Parkrun a few times. You'll get away with your normal roadies. There's a little bit up a hill through some woodland that you do twice but it's not too bad

this was on my radar mate as have never properly raced a HM , just did GNR with mates twice donkeys years ago, always fancied trying that one, but had niggly calf last couple week so prob wont bother. I had also wanted another crack at Carlisle Brampton 10miler next month and thats down the shitter now
Did you ever go and see that physio at Coxhoe? I had calf bother in July and he sorted it in 20 (painful) minutes !

Yes mate and a bloke in Sunderland who dan recommended , reckons my glutes aren’t firing up and very tight hips so calfs were overloading ... ran today for first time in 10 days, just did 35mins but felt ok , cycle or swim tomorrow then try 40-45 run Sunday . Won’t bother with brass monkey now , would love a crack at a decent HM in the spring if can

Sounds quite similar to mine, calf’s taking the weight of the work. I’m having to do loads of Pilates type stuff to build up my core. Hips and glutes are my weakness.

Edinburgh’s a good one to do in May. Fast, flat and it starts at 8 so you can normally be back in the city on the beer by midday !

Do you go Pilates classes ? I’ve picked 5 or 6 stretches that gonna do regularly . People who sit at work tend to have weak glutes and hips . Be interested to know what your doing ? Also, did you get in brass monkey ?

Yep, I go once a week. I have a daily routine where i do what I found the most useful stuff too.

'Dead bug' and 'jack knife' with a Swiss ball, plank, plank with dog leg lifts, glute bridge, sumo squats, standing leg deadlift (this ones brilliant for hamstrings/glutes), lateral push and a few more . .

Picked these up from the guy at coxhoe but also from a physio on Facebook down south. Look up kinetic revolution and do his thirty day improved running challenge. Some of my routine was picked up from the stuff in there that worked best.

Got into brass monkey. On bus down to Sheffield for northern XC relays now, first xc of the season for me. Gonna test the glutes :D

Same as mate , I may post on our clubs Facebook asking bout Pilates ... strollers do it once a week at ashbrooke

There's a bloke called Mike Jeffries does a runners pilates class around various County Durham locations. I know he does Durham, Peterlee, Hartlepool & Billingham but not sure where else.

I've been going to a general Pilates class for 3 months now as it's included in my gym subs & even though it's not runner specific it seems to have put a stop to the constant niggles I've been having all year.

Will have a look at some of these exercises lads, I’m terrible at keeping up with stretches and exercises tho unless i go to a class!
I was on holiday for a fortnight recently, did a bit of running but knocked all the stretching/core work on the head. Felt absolutely dreadful when I started training properly again as a result, aches and pains everywhere. Taken me two weeks to feel right again. It's a necessary evil sadly :(

I know Mike, he's a good lad. I often pick his brains about niggles at races. He runs for Richmond but think he's based in Peterlee.

Also Paul Wilson at Abbey and Crook. Excellent pilates teacher.

How often do people run on here? Every day or a day inbetween?
Am injured at the minute but like to do about 20 - 25 miles a week over either 3, 4 or 5 days.

Depends on why I'm running. If I'm not targeting a specific race& just running for pleasure or base maintenance then almost every day but at a pretty low intensity. As I'm approaching a target race I drop down to 1 interval session, 1 Tempo run & 1 long run per week but at a higher intensity & up the tempo of cross training as well.

Been a very lazy month or so for me running wise.

Was reasonably happy with a 1:15 half marathon and then had decided to have 4-5 weeks of light running. Now about ready to start up again but hamstring is naggingly sore.

Need a couple of trips to the physio to try and sort it and then start thinking about a long range training plan for London marathon. Let's see if the body can hold together...
