With him being scared to play in midfield does this mean he's saying he'll only play centre half or he doesn't want to play at all?

If there is something genuinely wrong upstairs then he should get help but what do you do in contract terms in these situations?

He should surely be sackable and in breach of contract, but this is football.

He won't have refused to do his job so we will be able to do fuck all.

He will have just made it clear that he doesn't want to do his job, so as his job is as a professional sportsman, we would be mad to pick him, thus preserving his £60k a week for doing nothing at all other than lose the odd U23 game for us.

Exactly, if I refused to do my job I would get sacked.
No, you would get a sick-note excusing you from duty because a medical professional had ascertained that you are unfit to perform your duties due to suffering from a stress-related illness.

Has Rodwell actually refused to play in midfield ? Or has Grayson just decided that he doesn't trust Rodwell to play in midfield as a result of a long running sequence of well publicised poor performances ?

Mmm not sure about that.
Playing centre half against a big bruiser can also be scary. The coward that he is

Like I said in the OP, if he does have some kind of mental health issue then he should be helped but, at the same time, why should we have our best paid player (who earns over £2 million a year according to Wiki) not be available to play.

If the truth of the matter is that he simply doesn't fancy it and intends to sit out the rest of his fat contract then surely we should be doing something about it.

I don't know how he copes earning £55k a week.

3 year deal - £55k x 156 weeks = £8.58m in wages.

How will he cope, it must be hard.
It must be all those barnstorming games he has had and victories he has led us to.

Worst signing ever.

Not of you had a proven medical condition, physical or mental, you wouldn't
ask a question at the club re his health and you may get a very strange answer
this is not a riddle

If that's the case he should be docked wages that he is stealing from the club
