Running Thread 2017

I gave their 10k a go. I would have been finished, tent packed up, had me bait and likely almost home by the time you were done!
Probably had your supper as well! The 10k was 9 miles or something wasn't it? Well done
Non of their runs are easy. Think I will stick to the shorter distance in the future!

yes 9 miles, though for a Hardmoors route very runnable. I've done their Wainstones, Roseberry Topping Mara's and the 55 miler- all tough but great races.

Anyone else find equal distances much harder on the treadmill than on the road?
I was all about the treadmill once upon a time (self conscious too) but I've not been on one in months and I find 5miles on a mill a chore, but 5 outside much easier as I can regulate my pace to suit. Whereas keeping up a constant tempo is hard.

Just need to figure out how to wrap up in the winter and completely avoid the treadmill.

Treadmill is probably mentally tougher but you will benefit much more if you can run outside , I don't know if any races on treadmills , They serve a purpose though if recovering from injury etc

If you keep on running outside and go through the winter you will soon learn what to wear and not what to wear. Get some long warm leggings, a hat, some thermal gloves, a jacket and a buff.

Anybody done that Great Run Local at Mowbray Park on a Sunday? Seems to be pretty similar to the Park Run set up.
Managed another slow ten miles this morning and my left knee is knacking a bit but might try and get down to stretch my legs in the morning.

Don't wrap up too much, dress for how you're going to be feeling 20 minutes in not how you feel when you step out of the door. You'll soon warm up.

I've got a couple of sets of these in different colours & find they keep me comfortable through even the coldest northeast weather with just a normal tech top & tracky bottoms over them.

About the only other things I would recommend are a couple of pairs of merino wool running socks. They're great for keeping your feet warm & dry when the cold wet puddle water gets in your running shoes.

Did Trail Outlaws 10k today, the Branches & Bays run along Durham coast. Class place to run and a well organised run too. 400 runners, so it's good to see it getting more attention.

The training seems to be paying off, took 9 minutes out of last years time and came in at 1:07. Not fast but I'm happy with that, like.

Yeah, it's a much tougher course than the Silky Parkrun. 4 laps of the park iirc and the bank is a real energy sapper too.

Well after 6 weeks of trying to get round silky park run in under 30 minutes (2 weeks ago I did 30:02, much to my annoyance) today I managed 28:23. I am a very happy fat lad this morning!

I can't recall who it was who mentioned interval training on this thread but I think it was that that has helped my time tumbled, thank you whoever you are!

Is anyone doing the kielder 10k or Marathon in October?
