Positives from the Hartlepool game and the last 24 hours

Anyone drawing positives from that performance last night is living in Cloud Cuckoo Clappy Land.
Craig Harrison has every right to, pipped by a solitary moment of quality and a bumper preseason crowd.:);)
Even if SG is only leaning weaknesses in the squad he is adding to his knowledge

Happy we've moved another big earner on, one whom we wouldn't really have wanted to give another contract to and we've got our money back by the looks of it. The trick is to now replace him - depending on how Stryjek is viewed potential wise we should either be looking to spend virtually nothing for a season or so on someone with experience like Rob Green with a view to developing Stryjek or maybe is Stryjek is looking a bit off first team games then loaning him out and signing someone like Smithies who has been highly rated and doing well and at 27 looking to come into his prime.

Not necessarily saying those two are my choices, just the ones of the ilk we should be looking at depending on funds and how close players we already have are to the first team.

If Lens is certain to be away, whats the point of playing him in these games? I'm hoping he's indicated a desire to stay.

Because it gets him in the shop window, because we haven't got alternatives and because we're paying him so he's still our player?

Lets be honest he didn't want to be here under two other managers when Advocaat left in the PL. He's pretty much a star in Turkey, it's unlikely he's doing anything but playing the game and knowing that sulking probably wont get him the move he wants.

WAsnt being a dick just wanted an honest opinion from someone being there to what I heard on the radio. You worried?

I wouldn't say worried but there is certainly nothing to get excited about. Can't see anything but mid table at best. They were awful on Tuesday.

What make a you think I'd table tho when we struggled to beat Hartlepool? Did the players look like they were in second gear?

Don't know how losing our first choice keeper for a pittance two weeks before the season starts leaving us with a shite Portuguese and a bairn who isn't ready can be seen as a positive like.

For all the people saying theyve been playing awful pre season - would you say they were worse than some of the woeful performances last season or bout on par with them ? No real basis to question just curious if going to be watching same level of crap as last season or depress myself with watching a new even lower level ?

I very much doubt he has indicated a desire to stay, but that's not to say it won't happen. It needs a club to come in with a decent bid.

Lens: I want to leave.

Grayson: You can go, I won't stand in your way. (So he keeps the player on side with him personally).

Lens: I'll pack my bags.

Grayson: Fine. Just one thing though ... those money men upstairs value you at £Xm. As soon as that is met, we'll happily say au revoir. Oh, and while you're still here, (before or after the window shuts), it's in everybody's best interests that you give your best for Sunderland. It'll help you get that move ...

I think it's definitely that simple in the modern game. No way would a player say one thing to a manager's face, while at the same time trying to force a move through being an arsehole, refusing to train, feigning injuries, being photographed in an Everton top, giving interviews to the press saying he hoped Sunderland got relegated, and daring a club that is £110m in debt to keep him on his massive wage bill that they can't afford, so that the price goes down by the end of August, with another loan deal if necessary.

Modern football for you.

Cracking bicycle kick by Vaughan that only just went over the bar.

Shop window. Turning it on will get suitors interested, and on our side we can hit them for more money due to how he is playing.

Would rather he stayed like, but doubt he will play in the Championship. Never know though!

Slow and dis-interested apart from maybe Cattermole and a couple of the younger lads, full backs are terrible, Kone needs peddling asap, Gibson is tragic, Honeyman nowhere near good enough, keeper suss....I cannot say anything positive from what I saw. Maybe mid-table might be wishful thinking.
