best thing he done for us was his shit touch when borini took it back off him and smashed it in the top bin against them lot.

Yes he was shite but had a cracking attitude and appeared to care about the team, and seemed upset with his performances.

As has been mentioned we've had and still do have a lot worse players

Yep, he was a striker low on confidence playing in a shite team. Said at the time I don't think we played to his "strengths" (cue he hasn't got any comments) and that pretty much no striker would have scored regularly in Poyet's system.

In games he's played against the Mags the aggregate score is 5-1

That Fulham penalty of his was the funniest thing that I have seen in over 50 years of following the Lads. He bamboozled two defenders with sheer footballing ineptitude and would have missed the net if had been allowed to shoot.

I was standing next to a group of Dutch lads who before the game had asked me (and laughed) if it was "THE" Jozy Altidore on the team sheet and they pissed themselves every time he touched the ball or at least tried to. Where that lad got the idea that he was a footballer God knows - still Clubs paid him top whack.

To me it was his "finest hour" with Sunderland nee wonder they put him on a cornflake packet when he got home .
. The best description of that was his resemblance of a pigmy hippo doing slow motion stepovers

Easily the worst footballer I've seen for us and that takes some doing. Probably the only professional I've ever seen who looks uncomfortable with a football.

Not sure about this mind.

One of the things I was told poyet was absolutely overjoyed with about the Defoe swap was that it got rid of altidore. He was a miserable presence in the dressing room and just seemed to sap the life out of it when he was there. Yes that's his lack of confidence but they couldn't go on with it. Apparently he just used to mope. Used to bring everyone down

That's not a bad attitude in the arse hole sense, but he wasn't a great team mate to have round the club.

There is no doubt he is one of the worst if not the worst footballer ever to pull on a Sunderland Shirt in over fifty years of supporting the lads.

There are not many players I actually despised apart from Jozy, Garreth Hall. Kevin Kilbane and Paul Stewart and I don't understand the references to being a " canny lad " as he always seemed to have strop on.

A truly awful foorballer but in his defense he appeared to suffer from clinical depression

Remember that Yank poster (Was it 'Uncle Sam' IIRC) who defended him to such lengths, we were deemed stupid and Altidore was too good for us to see his true potential...

I'll never forget logging in one night and seeing an inbox from a poster asking me to justify my comment on Altidore :lol::lol: Accusing me of being deliberately arrogant and that Jozy wouldn't have so many caps for USA if he was so bad. Then, he told me about his strengths, then told me he I was wrong then had the audacity to ask my opinion at the end.

Bloke had no touch, couldn't finish his dinner and was a truly woeful player...Bring him home!

He was indeed horrible last night and horrible overall. That said, two of our players got bit. (Gonzalez and Altidore) WTF?

In all seriousness, the USMNT has some serious issues. I don't think we've had a decent striker since McBride, and that's not saying a lot. Zardes and Altidore are utter shite.
