Maybe they changed the shop chain Wilkinson to Wilko to make it more appealing to women.
 
You would be correct

I have an ancestor with the surname Frankland which means Freeland and is Anglo-Norman in origin. It indicated someone had some land that they paid no rent for and the term Frank was used to mean Free because the Franks in France were the only ones deemed as Free Men. So it doesn't indicate someone of Frank descent.
