Durham Uni 135 for 5. Claydon and Wood have 2 wickets each and Plunkett has 1.

Score updates and a bit of chat here:

Smashing day out.

A burst or two of light rain but some lovely weather. Nice to see the lads and friends again. Lovely setting for a cricket match.

The University lads stuck to their task and Rocky looked to be in good nick.

Can't believe you weren't at Eastlands ;)

borthwick's figures of 3-30 look very good, as do the debuts, mark wood taking 2-26 and richardson's 5 catches.

shame scottys batting wasnt as good!but rocky carrying on his good form from the pre season... cant wait to take in our first game of the season :-D

Shame for all those fans who went down to witness what cant have been pleasant viewing. Got a couple of texts off my mates who are livid.

I'm pleased I missed it.

Rare there are Sunderland games I wished I'd been at. More Durham games

I wish more sports fans could be persuaded to follow these dedicated and largely underpaid cricketers. Some of whom will earn less in a year than etc etc

Not really a fan of Scotty opening, I imagine it was just a case of needs must. What's up with DiVa? Mind I know the perfect lad who could have opened yesterday - Karl Turner. IIRC he was the best batsman for the Seconds last season but now he's been let go, utter joke this lad wasn't given a chance. Its a case of 'who you know' at Durham. Players like Peng and Muchall were given chance after chance for years, one innings per summer players yet young talent such as Karl can't get a look in.

On a brighter note - Happy New Season lads :)

Karl Turner has apparently gone to Stockton.

Di Venuto was there yesterday. I had a bit craic on with him. TBH no need for him to play.

That's good news, aslong as he's still in the squad I'm happy!

He'll no doubt get paid in one of the lower league sides but as I said earlier its a disgrace he didn't get a chance in a few First Class games.

Oh, I see Muchall failed again.....

Scoring 73 is a good knock but Rocky really has to convert good starts into bigger scores. He looked in great nick loads of times last year and never really kicked on. Hes definitely got the ability but its about time he put some really big scores on the board.

That's what he always seems to do. Get a start, or a 50 but very rarely seems to convert it.

Managed too see an hour at dinner time and the last session.

Had a quick word with Rocky who seemed to be pleased with his innings. Lets hope he cracks a couple of early hundreds this year.

Blackwell's knock was brilliant and I was really pleased for Liam who got his maiden first class hundred. It got a bit hairy in the 90's.

Durham will now declare and try and skittle them out but I dont think that the weather forecast is overly clever for tomorrow. No matter though it was good for the lads to get some time in the middle.

Looks like Onions will be back for the Sussex game all things being equal.

Didnt realise that the lad who plays for Essex, Westley (?), was playing for Durham University.

Finished work early today and now down taking in a bit of cricket in beautiful surroundings! Hope these clouds part a bit. Good bit of fielding from Stokes to dismiss Smith first ball after lunch.

were you not saying the same about Bell after the first test in SA but clamouring for him to be dropped......is it one rule for Bell and one rule for your mates ;)

Comfy win.

When do we get the heavy armour out though? Do Harmy, Thorp and GO not need overs to hit the ground running?

Onions is expected to play in Thursday's 50 over game between the 2nd's and the Uni. I think they hope he will be ready for Championship action against Sussex.

I imagine Harmy and Thorp are being kept in cotton wool for Friday :)
