Years following the lads

I’m 43.

My first game was Boro at home in 88/89 season.
Colin pascoe winner 2-1.

Never thought I’d see us in Europe where I’d be able to enjoy it like I’ve always wanted and imagined it.

Can’t wait for the trips wherever we end up

Well over 30 for me.

Got to be honest, while my support for the lads has always been there, working away, then living away my passion has had its highs and lows, and not always connected to success/failure on the pitch, more connected to the people around me.

Going with mates as a young man, then them gradually getting married and them settling down, working abroad and then settling down myself, my interest did fade a lot.

Been on an absolute high since my son started to take an interest in us (in our first League One season) and its been on a high since then. Because him wanting to go Sunderland got me into it again, and that brought my dad back into it too. Going to watch the lads with three generations of family (and occasionally, members of my wifes family - Southampton fans) thats more than just football to me, and it would be like that in any league

Like a mini version of a Man City fan born in 2008. Only had the good times really (Beale season

What are we all upto years wise following the lads? I do appreciate that some may have just joined the journey and that is cool. We are all chosen at different times of our lives...

Was just wondering

42 years for me, and just to add, I never thought I would ever see Europe. I thought the Reid years were great, this is something different
58 years in September, it all started with a 4-0 hiding at home from Man City.

My first season ticket was 92/93, main stand seats, Roker wing & I’ve sat in u19 since the stadium opened.

You’re trying to steal my identity aren’t you?!

Why ‘82 in the username? That doesn’t add up.
'Hot' since 82 not born in 82 mate. It's actually the name of a DJ tho but.

U20 for quite a while now but more towards the swc originally.

Can't remember my first game. Neither can my Dad. But he remembers holding me and my brother on the barriers in the Sunderland v Arsenal game in 1980 when John Hawley scored a screamer. So I'm saying 46 years.

I’m 54
First game was late 70s but only from 91 as a regular
The FA CUP run got me hooked
So I’m actually a 92er 😅
Unlike them twats though I’ve been through thin and thin
Haway Europe ❤️🤍❤️🤍

I'm in the same boat as @dred73. It was the day after my 8th birthday and my Dad took me to Roker Park to see the Lads play Ipswich in 1958 (I remember they wore blue so thanks Statcat!) We stood in the Clock stand paddock with me on a pop crate at the front.
We got beat of course but I was well and truly hooked by the Roker Roar.
So to answer the question... 67 seasons, and I can't remember one better than this.

I wrote an account of this day in ALS137. Statcat tells me it was the debut game for Cec Irwin, Len Ashurst and Jimmy McNab.

I can only remember my uncles sad face on the way out.
What did you think of the 64 team?
