Jan Paul van Hecke (rumour)

He was awful against the mags. Doesn't really show the first goal but he kind of lost his footing and gifted Osula a free header. Complete howler for the third. Looks terrible.

Yeah I would back our recruitment team to pick up better for less money.

He's a good premier league defender player I wouldn't say he's world class. He has had a few shit games but you can see the quality overall. The question is how much are Brighton asking for £40-£60 million would be my guess.
He's one of the most consistent defenders in the league for providing blocks and clearances in games. A key to Brighton's defence and they generally keep a high number of clean sheets in a season.

I have a feeling people who say he isn't very good probably haven't actually watched that much of him and are basing it on one or two bad games

I find it odd when rumours that other clubs are going to sign players are tagged onto old threads like this, it makes you think we're in for them.

De Zerbi will know him from his time at Brighton, he clearly rates him and likely wants him in for his attitude as much as he does anything else.

Solid player, however I think we have better.

Every time one of the 'big six' (lol) makes one of these moves, they're just causing a net loss for themselves.

Well-run clubs see them coming, slap on a premium, the 'big six' get a good player... but their competitors are flooded with cash and usually replace the player for a fraction.

Every big sale is effectively like giving one of the other 14 teams 'big six' sponsor money for a year. Keep doing it and the gap will just keep eroding.

I'm all for it, me. Let Spurs spend what they like. I honestly reckon we could find a similar calibre CB for £10-20m (well, we already did in Nordi and Alderete...)

The thread merging is way over the top on this forum nowadays. I appreciate it keeps the place tidy but it's a nightmare trying to figure out what is 'new' info when there's some 200 page thread from a year ago as the base

I understand these teams have to sell

But to sell at the first instance, ahead of a season in Europe in which they can win that competition?

How they ever supposed to push on

Agreed. There was another player the other day that I thought we must be in for, it was a link from last year.

What if the player is keen to leave though? I know they have a contract in place, but you don't want to end up with an unhappy player. Which leaves two options, either offer them an improved contract to persuade them to stay, or try to get the best deal you can and recoup as much money as possible.

Not ideal for the fans, unless they replace him with better.

Not always, just look at how the mags frittered away the Isak money.

They may have applied ‘the big six tax’ but they still managed to make themselves worse in the process 😂

He's been at Brighton a while now, and there's always seemed to be rumours of interest each summer, so I think Brighton will have a number of players lined up if they get their asking price.

Because they sell him for more than he’s worth, and then they buy another player of similar ability for less than he’s worth.

Brighton have a tremendous record of doing that lately, mostly to Chelsea, and they have progressed significantly over the last decade if you look at their relative squad value and their average league position.

A lot of our fans are coming round to the idea now of not having to nail everything down, because if a team come in to buy one of our players (Clarke, Stewart, Bellingham) then we will typically replace them for a fraction of the selling fee, and the club will continue to improve by reinvesting the surplus.

If Brighton sell him they will be absolutely fine, they have a better track record at this than we do.
