Well done FIFA

Is there a market for Trump keeping the trophy?
I'd be amazed if he's not front and centre at the final, dressing the winning captain in a MAGA cap and USA bald eagle t-shirt, much like Messi got his dish dash on in Qatar!

Put it this way I'd not be surprised if he gets Infantino to let him hand over the trophy, but only after he gives a long, rambling speech.

The fact that we haven’t had a WC in sixty years is a disgrace. A legacy of Stanley Rous and Alf Ramsey calling the Argies animals. Mexico are about to have their third since then.

Imho the countries best placed to host a tournament are us and Germany
Spot on. For a small country like ours, where travel to several venues would be a piece of cake, and moderately cheap. Plenty of large and medium stadiums within short distances.

Hope this is an absolute shambles.

Empty seats, players denied visas, protests, the works. Hope Trump finds the whole thing embarrassing and starts lashing out at Infantino, hope teams start pulling out, hope it all descends into anarchy.
And then everybody sues FIFA AND the U.S. govt for compo...U.S. levels of compo.

I was planning to watch the Canada game on 12th June.

Ticket prices on FIFA website (face value not the secondary sale) were $2030 category 1, $1575 category 2 and $950 category 3.

A total f***ing disgrace. They can stick it where the sun don't shine. So if Canada's gane is in a half empty stadium that's why. It's the premium that are charging for host nation games!

Conversely, my category 3 England v Panama ticket on 27th June was $220.
That's seriously shocking, I thought the idea of the world cup was it make it more accessible and enable supporters to see teams they wouldn't ordinarily have the opportunity to see. I can't understand why the tickets are not reasonably priced. It's like they've adopted an NFL pricing policy, akin to the Superbowl.

About time European countries issued travel guidance for the USA as a hostile state.

Perhaps an arrest warrant for Infantino too (decide the charges afterwards - we can start behaving like a rogue state in preparation for Forage's election) just keep him under wraps for the duration of the tournament

If Scotland weren't there I don't think I'd watch any of it on purpose

Its because the people who run football are criminal charlatans. I have to stifle the laughter whenever I see or read FIFA proclamations about how holding the WC in places like Qatar, Russia and KSA is "aiding the growth of the game", "bringing people together through sport" or that these countries were picked because they had "the best bid". It's ludicrous, utterly ludicrous.

When Scotland qualified I was really, really keen to go. As soon as I realised where they were playing and the cost I gave up on that. Even if I won the lottery on Friday I'd not go on principle.

Probably the least excited I've ever been for a World Cup, at least one which England are playing in. The main issue for me is just the number of teams. I got my World Cup wallchart out the other day, and there were no vaguely interesting matches in the first knockout stage (of 32), and hardly any in the last 16 either. And I've got no confidence that we will do anything other than plod on in a boring way until we get defeated by the first good team we play

There’s a feature on BBC News now about the 1966 final. A match ticket cost 55p, equivalent to around £8 in today’s money.
I really hope Iran 🇮🇷 wins it. Genuinely.

Just to put the cherry on the massive shit sarnie this has become and to see Trumpy's bracket as the trophy is handed over.

That's why we'll never get it. There's no backhanders to be made if the infrastructure already exists 😉

i was thinking from a carbon footprint, environmental perspective, it would be cheapest place to host the WC and the least amount of work needed to be done. could probably host it tomorrow.

theres 44 clubs in the premier league and championship with top notch training facilities too.

the money that is saved on building new stadia and train stations and the likes could be spent on reducing ticket prices
