Do you ever worry?

Following this thread has made me realise that its not a threat to the way our club is run, but the way football is run that we should worry about.

In my lifetime football has changed so much and continues to.

Sponsored stadia (especially new ones that are built and only know by their first sponsor. Bolton still play at the Reebok in my mind!)

International audiences. Both our clubs abroad and foreign clubs here.

Foreign ownership/state ownership and majority foreign players

Choreographed prematch events/lightshows

The vast sums of money involved.

The ball is rolling to an NFL style model. And in time it wouldnt shock me if money talked and we ended up with Franchises, just as has happened in cricket
 

KLD is definitely here to make money - that’s a fact.

I’m OK with that - If he can establish us as a consistent top half premier league side, the value of the club just goes up.

We might actually win something as a by product of him becoming more wealthy :)
 
Not worried.

Have a walk around the stadium and all the work going on, the sheepfolds, the new footbridge, and so on. It's all raising the bar.

Then look at the team, and what they have done in the short time under KLD. Just look at how professional and how knowledgeable about football our board are....it's something we've never had in my 40 odd yrs!

The lad and his family seem to want to build a legacy here, and build a successful club, but with the added wish of wanting to make his dad proud of what he's doing, and that means more than flipping the club for a quick profit. I feel the lad is far from done yet.

I'm not worried.

He could dee owt he wants to make money, and they've plenty of it to begin with.

He's here to build something. I think he's probably here to win something.

They are bloody good, bloody clever and done bloody well. But does anyone worry they might lose their club as they know it.

Which club can we hope we will emulate to have what is success but also ensures that the club is primarily for the people and most importantly not the fan who watches on TV but the one who attends rain , hail and shine.

Bob Murray did everything for the fans, not himself, but delivered limited success.

Is the future for us or despite us ??? Will success be worth it.

Only really interested in views of people who actually go to games … for anyone else what do they care…. And there’s the rub. 40000 people may be sensitive to change but for millions we are just performing seals creating an atmosphere and feeding their entertainment.

Do we feel German football is more wholesome more in tune with supporters?

I think Chelsea, Mags, West Ham, Man Utd have all been destroyed as clubs.
Daft as it might sound I am glad I don’t support Man City, I think it’s lost its soul.
Probably only Liverpool has kept in touch with its roots. Can we do that?

I would give anything right now to have half of what you have right now.
As football Supporters we only have 2 choices in anycase. Go or don’t go.
 
No, I'm chuffed to bits and ultra confident.

Not as confident as @Drexl though, knocked on for him the other night asking if he fancied playing out and he was dressed up like Snake Plissken (without the patch).

Regarding the ownership, he said the whole family are behind the project. They want to take this Club to the top. Most of the board are trusted business associates. Even their Mam set up an overdraft for us at her bank. The best valuation of SAFC probably amounts to about 5% of the family wealth, so even a huge profit is meaningless.
Tom Burwell (Interim CEO) said in his Business of Sport interview that the future for the family is envisioned as at least 10-15 years. This is karma for the rich Texan numpty and the Barrow Boys that ruined our club over a previous 15 years.

It really seems like a dream. My only worry is that I will wake up and we're still in L1.

This point is actively encouraged by the SCR ruleset. You can only spend what you make, so it incentivises teams to absolutely rinse every penny out of their fanbase that they can. Not only does it incentivise it, it makes it absolutely ESSENTIAL to do if you want to succeed. Otherwise you won't compete financially, simple as that really. It's a set of rules designed to benefit the game, but by doing so fucks the fans over.

1. No, I think they recognise that the community feel is part of what's driving the club

2. Again no. That would assume that they think we've peaked and I'm not hearing any noises that would suggest that.

3. The big city clubs almost always end up with a load of tourists attending games which inevitably skews the club and neglects the grass roots fans.

Our geography doesn't really lend itself to international fans, and the percentage of fans that attend from within the local area right now would suggest that the owners are going to have to keep local fans onside.

Just because they are quiet doesn't mean that there's something nefarious going on.

I get what you're saying, and I think every club in to English professional football is now run as a business first, and in that sense the people running this club are doing a great job.

Can the club ever be 'for the fans' again given the amount of money flying around, I don't think so.

Not only is the OP a "glass half empty" type of lad but his particular glass has got a bad crack on the rim and shards of glass in the bottom so he has to chuck what's left of his drink.
