SOL expansion

Have to factor in designs, contractors, costs, planning permission, procurement which would be massive if it’s the east stand given all the equipment for corporate to be added. Having all that in place, is the realisation that it can’t be started during a football season for obvious reasons including H&S. In effect any extension would mean probably 2years from design to completion. So in essence any extension isn’t imminent unfortunately. Any delays means higher construction costs both in labour and materials.

The North Stand extension was started mid-season iirc, and completed by the start of the next. At no time was the North Stand closed. The SoL was designed for east expansion.

Correct, I think it took from about February until the summer. No roof for a while was the biggest inconvenience.

East Stand would probably take a bit longer, but oh well.

From what I’ve read, the new financial regulations make it easier for stadium investment so if we start the season well, I can see something being announced before the end of next season. Securing a European place just makes it more likely as long as we can keep up the progress.

They're still going through the waiting list. I got a second phone call today. Said I had to contact them within 24 hours if I want one.
Crazy why couldn’t be done online then any random singles left would get snapped up straightaway

The whole stadium is designed for expansion, apart from the West Stand which was obviously done. At the back of the East/North stands it actually looks half finished. Bob Murray gets a bit of stick on here, but he had the foresight to see that we are capable of pulling in 50-60 k if successful and the stadium would be able to be easily expanded to accomodate this.

East stand expansion would be totally different to the north stand so no real relevance. If corporate is king in this, then the boundaries change significantly. It depends to what extent the designs would be. Regardless, all of the things I mentioned, the reality is any east stand extension with substantial corporate can’t possibly just materialise from design reviews to completion in anywhere near the timescale of the north stand.

There's not really though is there.

If you're not on the ball at 10am chances are you miss out. You've got no or limited choice on where you sit too.

Get that East stand extension built
You’re wasting your time trying to explain even the basics to some marra. If summets not happening to them then it’s not happening to anyone. End of story as far as they’re concerned.
It’s difficult getting tkts together for one off family treats frinstance. Or for someone who doesn’t know well in advance if they can go or not. There’s dozens of other situations that are preventing fans not getting to games they may want to because of the stadium size. I just hope the owners aren’t of a similar mindset.

They could just add some extra boxes on the back of the east stand. It would lose regular capacity though.

I'd imagine the owners are hopefully aware that due to the limited selection currently available, they are losing out on match day sales, and likely season ticket sales.
If the East stand was extended that's more hospitality to offer and more choice for families/groups to get tickets together

Yeah appreciate that but it’s a lot easier than a lot of the other clubs. People who want a ticket will generally get one. Deciding where you sit isn't a big deal
What about more than one person? What about people with kids? Family treat groups?
For years me and my group of thatchers children/tebbitts bikers marras would have a yearly back home reunion weekend that included going to the match together in the Roker or Fulwell. It was always possible in the leaner years at the SOL. No chance now.

It won’t be the same design now, IMO

It’ll be simpler than some stadiums but we won’t be mirroring the North or West Stands and additional design and works needed
Exactly. A completely new design could facilitate totally different structures to be supported. If anyone knows precisely what, if any pre groundwork’s were put in place re an east stand extension could they put these up please. The goalposts change considerably, depending on any design change to 25 years ago. How on earth could an east stand corporate extension and concourses not incur a partial closure,as in perimeter walls needing to be further out as in the footprint.maybe structural engineering wasn’t the job for me at all GOM.

Pretty Sure the North East Corner/East Stand Extension would be a mirror image of the West Stand/Premier Concourse apart from they wont be incorporating boxes and will include 2 levels of Corporate Areas with access out into padded seats and 1 level of general admission food/drinks concourse. Externally/internally joining up with the North Upper it will probably look the same as it will have to go from 21 rows to 27 rows like North West Upper due to the road being too close behind the North East Corner.
Adds circa. 8,500 seats to Capacity but you lose 726 seats from the back of the North East Corner and East Stand as rows 42-44 wont exist anymore. These season ticket holders will need to relocate.
