Review of Our Finances (Swiss Ramble)

So I have seen it written that, as we are in that Europe, we're only allowed to spend 7% of our turnover on our squad, whereas in the Premier Leahue, you can spend up to 85% of your turnover.

Might we have fucked out league campaign by qualifying for Europe in that case? Or will 70% of our increased turnover from a run in Europe be more than 85%of our turnover for a Premier League season?

Difficult to know. Europa prize money doesn’t look amazing, but we’ll have extra sponsorship revenue coming in. Should even itself out really, and it’s a necessary step for the club to keep growing.

....or maybe we've planned already not to spend more than 70% of revenue.
At the beginning of this season id imagine they'd done their sums on the basis of finishing 17th, the extra revenue from finishing 7th from 17th is another 30 odd million, then there's the extra revenue from the europa and TV money for that as well so doubt we are any worse off at all

Yeah, maybe. I don't know. Reads like you don't either. I was hoping someone might be able to give some insight. The club does seem well run though so I'd imagine they-re able to navigate this.

I know enough that none of us expected to be so high in the table and with that comes the massive uplift in revenue.

Depending on what we do with sponsorships this summer it may well be even rosier, and European football is well worth the lesser % to spend, the vast majority of us have never seen sunderland in Europe never mind thinking we have a good chance to advance pretty far in the comp

I doubt we'd have maxed out our 85% cap anyway, really don't think that 15% will make that much of a difference

What surprises me in the finance report is that retail and merchandise reduced from £3M in 2024 to £1.2M in 2025. This was the first season of the Hummel deal wasn’t it? Thought we sold a record number of strips.
