Can we win the Europa League?

Our CV against European teams isn’t exactly exemplary. Every time we play them in a preseason match we lose. If we get so much as a single solitary point in our campaign we will have confounded the doubters again. A win would be beyond my wildest imagination.

Add to the mix we just don’t know how European football teams play and we could be in for a big shock. We know how well the teams like PSG and Bayern Munich play. As someone who is going into this totally blind never having seen European football before other than a preseason game at the SOL, I must assume that other clubs from the same country as teams like Ajax and FC Porto also play with a degree of panache. An element of style. I could maybe give you two or three clubs who play in the Europa League of the top of my head, but a third would certainly be a guess. I certainly would struggle to think of a name. These clubs though would probably run rings around us.

I saw on the screen “Europe Confirmed” but it took a while to notice the Europa League logo. I was excited but disappointed at the same time The Conference League may have offered us a slightly better chance of winning. Not by much but it would have been a significant improvement in chances.

Can we win it? Never in a million years. I out first season it’s not about that. It’s about making some success out of it. If we strengthen in several areas with 2-3 top players and I don’t see why we can’t get points.

Of course we could win it, will we probably not as there are some other great teams.

We should 100% be getting out of the league phase, if we don’t that would be very disappointing

Brighton qualified for the Europa League in 2023 by finishing 6th (which was the first time they had played in Europe). They topped their group (which included Ajax and Marseille) though went out in the round of 16 to Ajax. So they had a good go at it and you never know, especially the way we've proved doubters wrong over the last 12 months.

That same season, they dropped to 11th in the Prem, so league form wasn't affected disasterously

I think now as I did in 1973,we can take on anyone and yes we need to add goals to the squad but KTF Ghifi is the boy to put final touches towards world domination.

Probably not. We aren't a great cup team and we don't score enough goals. We are built on a very solid base (that IMO is why we won't struggle next season as we aren't over reliant on 1 or 2 star players).

We also need to prioritise the league and rightly so. Hopefully we can sign a few players that can make us more attacking but it's a balancing act to not destroy our hard to beat nature.

Given the massive step up we successfully made from the Championship to the PL in Season 1, I fully expect something similar next season. Better and better.

We have every chance!

We will lose the final to Bournemouth after being 2-2. Diarra to miss a sitter at 90+7 before O'Nien gives away a penna for wrestling at 90+13. Agonisingly, there is still time but Ballard's thumping header equaliser is ruled out for yanking a Bournemouth player's stubble as he jumped.

We now actually have a few players with European experience which should be a huge help .
From what I was reading yesterday seeding for the draw of teams we will play we will be pot 3 or 4 so will have some very difficult games though .

After the season we’ve had, anything is possible! 👌
“Let’s get carried away man!” 😁
Davey's son was on Total Sport on Monday and they mentioned Davey had predicted 7th and that we'd get into Europe! 😎 Shame they didn't have the recording of that call but it starts about 52 mins in for anyone who missed it.

If you look at the run villa had:

Group stage:

Bologna (H)
Feyenoord (A)
Go Ahead Eagles (A)
Meccabi Tel Aviv (H)
Young Boys (H)
Basel (A)
Fenerbache (A)
RB Salzburg (H)

L16: Lille

QF: Bologna

SF: Nott'm Forest

F: Freiburg

They didn't have to beat anyone who you'd say was a traditional big hitter in european football.

Our biggest challenge will be managing the workload. No reason why we can't get to QF though, and anything can happen once it's knockout football
