Wingers.

Is everyone assuming Traore is on his way? We have an option to keep him another season IIRC and although he has missed a lot of the season I thought he was decent when he did play. 30 years old so arguably in his prime still, and has 64 caps in European competition so the experience may be useful too. 1 in 4 goals across his career is not to be sniffed at either.

Five signed this season plus Mundle already on the books. What’s your thoughts on whether we still need better quality on the flanks, who would you keep and who you’d like to sign. Personally I’d be fairly happy with Angulo and Talbi on the left but I’d sell Adingra, Mundle and let Traore leave if we could sign Amad. Those three should cover most of his wages and maybe 40% of the fee.
It's our weakness in the squad has been all season however finding a talented consistent winger or wingers is very very difficult.

A winger has one of the hardest jobs in the team he's the one that mainly creates the chances he's the one that has to beat his man most of the time to do it.

Even the likes of gordon and barnes coat big money and they don't play well a lot of the time

I think Amad is that player and I think his lacklustre second half of the season may persuade Man U to invest on that flank although Mbuemo does play wide right too. If we’re going to get him now’s the time given that tail off in form which I’d personally put down to him being mucked about….played as a wing back, played on the left, hooked at half time.

I agree. He is the next level signing we need to be making if we want to keep progressing as a big club

Given we've not seen too much of either in terms of creativity/ability alone Adingra looks some way ahead of the stronger more physical Angulo to me.

I had a dream we had Summerville on the left and Amad on the right as our starting wingers. I suspect it will remain just that but imagine
Summerville when firing is very impressive, but this season he didnt ’come Alive’ till almost Xmas. Not sure he is big on defending either
Love to see Amad but somehow I don’t think it would happen and would he fit the strictures and ‘connections’ of RLB ?

Did you not see the pics of Regis deep in conversation with Amad after the Utd match. Probably telling him the bid is going in and to let them know it’s what you want.

We clearly realized you can get quality reliable central players and defenders for reasonable prices but also to get a finished article winger/attacker it'll cost above and beyond 50m.

So cheaper raw attackers that can grow was clearly the plan.... but with the extra games, with little pressure to bring in more than 2 or 3 1st teamers.. a quality winger ready to hit the ground running should be a priority.

Step forward Mr Diallo.
On paper our wingers are the weakest areas of the team. Like you say though it's clear the strategy so far has been with a longer term in mind.

The club wasted no time in moving Adingra on when he was looking hit and miss. They replaced the majority of the starting lineup after promotion. I wonder if European qualification will accelerate their approach once more and we go for players more ready made.

However, as long as he's a regular in that Man Utd side, Diallo won't be going anywhere.

Too early to say to be honest.

Talbi has shown potential. Angulo and Ta Bi have had injuries and not had a clean run in the team.

All need the cliched pre-season and then see where we are. I’d include Adringa in that as he is proving again in France he is a decent player.

Ta Bi is the one I’m most excited about as everything I’ve read says he is a unique player with a very high ceiling.

Aye, just need an established right winger like Traore but who is younger and quicker. Most promising link seems to be with that Alisson.

Am I missing something with this lad? I know he is young but seems to have played 21 games in 2 years for Shaktar scoring only 1 goal. All in a war torn so far weaker then historically Ukrainian league.

I don't know what this obsession is with Amad. For the price and wages he'd cost us we could probably get someone twice as good.

He's not "next level" at all, he's "two levels ago".

I think when you sign that many wingers for good money, I start to wonder if it’s the tactics rather than the players themselves. They’ve all shown flashes to suggest there is a player in there. I still think Mundle has the most potential, but injury record is terrible.

I think the options we have all look promising, however I also think it is a current area of weakness for the team.

My guess would be that we won’t retain Traore due to age and fitness. I think it would be good to see an older and better established pro come in to set the tone and give the youngsters something to work towards, but someone who will decline over the next few years as our current crop start to peak and take their place. It’s a bad example as it doesn’t sound like he will be leaving West Ham, but a player like Bowen would seen a perfect fit.

We need to improve our wingers massively. 2 in 2 out. Dont mind Angulo and Talbi as back up or for rotation tho. The biggest area we need to improve. Pacey tricky wingers

If mundle is the one with the most potential then that’s worrying (not that I’m disagreeing).

Not sure what flashes you’ve seen from Angulo but he’s just joined.
Talbi has had flashes with some brilliant finishes.

Dario Osario, left footed right winger from Chile. Plays for Mjitland and highly rated.

Harvey Elliott on loan could also be a good shout.

Or Harry Wilson on a free from Fulham.

I think its a priority area tbh, as the OP points out we're well c9vered on the right flank.

I think Angulo had 1
Very good game. Dint remember who it was against. He’s a hard
Worker, perhaps not as skillful as the others, but may fit the profile RlB is looking for more.

Apart from Traore, we're missing some physicality out wide. Most of our lads seem quite similar and a bit easy to knock off the ball. Some strength, height, and pace would really be a big help, but I guess they're not easy to find.

Our tactics this season haven't really favoured wingers. Their positions when getting the ball tend to be deep, so they can't really drift past 2 opposition players, and it often tends to playing the ball back to where it came from. This season has often made me wonder if we'd be better off with some proper wing backs, but that may be down to just RLB not having full trust in our young wingers yet and the injury to Traore on the right.
