Fortuna Dusseldorf

I remember they were in a European final v Barcelona. 4-3 it was

We were all going to go out on the back field to recreate the goals , as was the fashion in those times.
But it got dark , so we never bothered.
Hans Krankl was brilliant for Barcelona.

relegated to 3. Liga in Germany with a 55,000 seater stadium.

Ooooof
Few of these clubs going like this, Boavista the other season went into 5th tier in Portugal, 1860 Munich and Cottbus both play in 3 Bundesliga, but quite a few struggle in German football I've noticed

1860 munchen about to go out of business as well.

A lot of big German teams have gone to shit in recent years

Got family from Krefeld so used to follow Bayer Uerdingen when i was a kid.

Beat Bayern in the cup final and then Bayer decided to pump all their cash into Leverkusen and then they plummeted
An really? Watched 1860 a few years ago against Elvesberg who had a lanky German up top - woltemade

Cottbus were promoted, and will play in BL2 next season. Still a pretty small club, but I've been there once (and recommend it). It's only a few miles from the Polish border so not very easy to get to. Rot-Weiss will join them in BL2 if they win tonight.

I've been before when they were in the Bundesliga 2. They only had one and a half stands open. Shame as it's a class City.

Great city and great location for getting to other German football grounds within an hour or two on the train:
You’ve got Monchengladbach, Cologne, Leverkusen, Schalke, Essen, Duisburg, Dortmund, Aachen, Bochum and even Frankfurt is easily reachable.
Back there in October for a stag do. Can’t wait

Good. Serves them right for their fans invading the pitch in the Bundesliga relegation playoff against Hertha in 2012. What goes around comes around.....suckers.

Yeah you're right mate.

I did Monchengladbach earlier this season, it was spot on.

Some really small club has just gone up to the top flight too for the first time.
And Wolfsburg have been relegated from the top flight yesterday
Paderborn were promoted into the Bundesliga a few years ago for the first time, this year’s promotion will be the second time. I used to go and watch them when I lived in Germany, always a great day out.
