Can we keep this brilliant team together?

The Real Supermac

Central Defender
After the play-off final against Charlton the team were shattered.
Niall Quinn then pulled off a master stroke.
Stepping up to the plate with Kevin Ball he gathered the team together and urged (told) them to instruct their agents that they won't be leaving Sunderland.
The agents were to ignore any attempts to poach the team.

Niall told them to have a good rest and be ready to rip the First Division apart.
105 points, 91 goals scored and only 28 conceded. That was some season!
That was some leadership.

Granit Xhaka also oozes leadership, we have all seen his exemplarily conduct during the season and the post match speech.
I would love to know what he and RLB said to the team after the game.
I would love to see a similar impact to SNQ's 1998 leadership.

This is going to be some summer!

I think European football and Xhaka surely helps.

I have no doubt there will be bids - but as long as the players aren’t agitating for moves then we’ll get top dollar for them if they do go. And I’m happy with that, it’s the name of the game (and I want them to go play at the highest level!)

Is someone like Spurs or Chelsea more attractive for Roefs now then us, when there’s this spirit among the club. I personally doubt it, but who knows.

If Barca or Real Madrid come in for a player, or Liverpool, Man U etc. it’s hard to say no. But I dunno if any of them will?

We have potentially stopped some players leaving today, gertruida and Isador, we have also opened the door to many more players wanting to join. Some players like sadiki and roeuf might just struggle to turn down who comes in (next level up from Europa)

Aye. Unless some mega club comes in, I dont see why many would want out if theyre playing and have europa coming up. we certainly wont be robbed anyway. our recruitment the last few years has been superb, I expect that to continue. club actually seems to know what its doing for the first time since..what? early 00s?
The only one I'm genuinely scared to lose is Enzo, simply because I think he could make almost any team in the world better.

I don't say them words lightly either.
I agree but tbf he was at a good European club and they clearly didnt agree. for some reason.

Sadiki will be the one if any. Can’t remember the forum saying “Diarra never stops and is a class player”. Obviously they meant Sadiki…

90% of Champions League teams have less money the us like.

Real, Barca, PSG, Bayern and then the English teams are basically the only ones who have the funds to be buying a top player off a team like us.

I don’t see any of them wanting any of our lot - but you never know of course.

I don't think it was that he never had the ability or the tenacity. It was more that he fell out of favour with the manager, which beggars belief.

Two things to remember.

Firstly, our recruitment also takes into account player:'s attitudes. It is no coincidence that Le Bris has a PhD in sports psychology. We really cannot overstate his expertise here.

Secondly. We are a Premier League team playing in the Europa League. There just aren't that many teams in the world that can compete with us either financially or in terms of the level of competition they can offer (this isn't arrogant it's just a basic economic reality about the PL compared to other leagues).

Imagine wanting to leave after that show of club unity today ?

You’d be mad .
Totally. We would usually worry someone could offer them European football...feels weird that we dont have that worry now. f***ing hell. so aye..unless a massive champions league club comes in and pays a fortune, no reason to go.

I think Europe will see us keep the core together.

I expect a shock sale now or January but have every faith that money will be reinvested.

Am I right that our league position has recouped our spend from last summer? Europe has probably cleared our slate 🔴⚪🔴
