England World Cup squad news

Fuck sake opened that on Xcancel and one of the first comments is complaining about the fella running not being English, and someone claiming Spence was selected to appease Muslims. Deary deary me
Social media these days is a f***ing cesspit.

Any news article involving a remotely foreign name, you can guarantee some arsehole will comment “Muhammad? A traditional English name” or “what part of Darlington is he from?”

Gibbs White not being in and Ivan Toney in is an embarrassment.
They’re not comparable though, different positions
Mental....they saying on Sky it mught be because Toney is used to play in extreme heat...he's only played 2 minutes under Tuchel. Very strange. We surely can't be taking Toney just for pens??
Kane and Watkins are a good pair of options as they’re so different.

Toney is more similar to Kane in that he gets involved in build up more, so if you want to rest Kane (after a mammoth season) if a game is done, Toney is probably the best most similar deputy

I'm disappointed he's left out Foden, Palmer *and* Gibbs White, I'm disappointed there's no TAA or Bowen, but... the starting XI pretty much picks itself, aye? And... whisper it quietly, it's actually very, very good?

Pickford
James--Konsa--Guehi--O'Reilly
Rice--Anderson
Saka--Bellingham--Rashford
Kane

Add Eze, Rogers, Gordon, Watkins to the mix and there are options.

I have the same concerns beyond the initial 15ish players, but the likes of Burn will barely touch the ball this summer so not sure it's worth twisting.

Some very questionable choices, main ones that stand out to me are Burn (obviously), Quansah (Has he had a good season?), Spence (possibly relegated this weekend and awful), Henderson (Gibbs-White better this season but i half get the leadership side), Madueke (Done nothing of note this season, isn't even a starter for Arsenal) and Gordon (hit and miss player, don't know if best choice but out of these players has best case i guess).

Quansah's decent.

But do we need 3 strikers? Rashford can play up top if needed
Posted above my assumption of why Toney is in.

Basically Kane and Watkins offer variation, with two complementary play styles to suit different situations

Toney is a deputy to Kane if you want to rest him during a match (plus pens)

Sensible.

I see the logic in 3 strikers, but should be Welbeck or even DCL over toney

We can only pray

Aye, fair enough for Cherry's perspective. Mind, I'd bet you'd find Hammers fans saying the same about Bowen (albeit he's been a talisman in the past). But he's an impact sub with pace and a true winger. Palmer really isn't, and just won't provide any width if he's played there. You could argue that the versatility and left footed balance could have seen him nudge ahead of one of the three 10s who are going, I guess. However, on the seasons they've had - and on what they've produced for England to date - there's no way that Palmer gets in before JB, Eze or Rodgers. To date, he's really struggled to impact at international level. Madueke over Bowen and Palmer is arguable, for sure, but it just isn't worth the froth for me. None of the supposedly contentious ones are. None of these are on the level of Hoddle leaving out Gascoigne in 98 - and even that one had some logic behind it.

Aye, but he's just not a winger. If we're not picking Madueke then it needs to be someone who provides that width. Truth is, it's slim pickings out there for England for the next couple of years.
I’m a bit concerned that England might not have a world-class striker in the near future.
Is Charlie Scorer a striker? He plays for Sunderland and won Academy Player of the Season, right? He’s also part of the England youth setup.

Madueke’s started and played well regularly for England under Tuchel, why would he not be in? The idea that that should be ignored and some other player who’s played well in a different team for a different manager in a different system in a different league is nonsense.

How do fans expect managers to do well at international level if they’re just calling up new random players all the time? Makes zero sense. Same folk scream how important form is but dont care about their form for England
