Discounts for OAPs

I’m fully aware this will be as popular as a guinness fart in a lift, but nevermind. Not trying to be contrary, just intrigued

Why is OAP a discount still a thing. OAP wealth is greater than all other age groups, why do they get a discount for the match, transport, the cinema, whatever?

Don’t give me Mavis who is living on the state pension, the counter is Steve who is living on unemployment benefits.

Ungrateful wretch , we put the breath in your body and the food in your gob 😉😆

Marketing ploy. It makes them look like theyre caring for the vulnerable, so more will go there as they believe that theyre the good guys

Sort of linked but I'm amazed you get free prescriptions at 60...even if you're working.

Only heard that recently. Must cost a fortune

Love my OAP discounts me like. ;)
The OP will be old one day:lol:
He's just wumming and fishing for bites as normal.
Figures from age UK show around 2 million pensioners live in poverty. 4.7m are cutting back on the use of energy as they can't afford the bills. There's other figures on their websites for poverty levels in the UK. Not that many will be interested.
This board generally is very ageist yet age is a protected characteristic. Strange you don't see these threads making sweeping generalisations against other protected classes of people. I wonder why that is?

Same reason kids' discount is a thing. OAP's will usually be accompanied by their kids, grandkids and/or carers, so by giving them a discount you're potentially attracting a group of other punters.

I hate this term vulnerable
It just reinforces the victimhood mentality
Vulnerable to what
Is that only when it's used in reference to the elderly? Or do you "hate" that term wherever it's used and for any groups of people?

"Nearly half of all pensioners over State Pension age in the UK (about 45%) are living with a disability. Furthermore, 2 million older adults (roughly 15% of the over-65 population) have unmet care and support needs, and a staggering 67% of those aged 65 to 74 with clinically significant mental health symptoms go completely untreated.

The likelihood of a long-term illness increases substantially with age: About 40% of people in their 70s and nearly 70% of those aged 80 and over live with a disability.Around 500,000 pensioners have difficulty walking across a room, and 600,000 need assistance getting in and out of bed.Conditions like sight and hearing loss affect the majority of the "oldest old"—for instance, half of people over 90 live with sight loss".
