Southampton spying compendium thread

There’s absolutely no way the EFL can reinstate Southampton for the final.

Can you imagine Eckert walking the team out at Wembley after all of this? Globally broadcast.

The EFL have a brand to maintain. This is one of the most watched games of football in the world.

Where will you stay?

Friday and Monday in Newcastle, Sat/Sun the usual. Prices are insane in Sunderland due to the Radio 1 thing. I originally only booked the Sat/Sun, and even then I used loyalty points because the cash price was mental. When I went back for the extra nights. the Hilton was asking £459 for the Friday.

I feel for the fans except those who were joking about with ghillie suits and binoculars and binocular gestures. Really stupid and making light of what were quite obviously serious and justified allegations

Said on the other thread I don’t have much sympathy for them as a lot didn’t give a toss about it until they were booted out.

The thousands signing we will spy where we want in the second leg, the fancy dress, lauding Harwood Bellis’ celebration.

They now seem to want the World to forget a large number found it hilarious up until they were booted out and rebrand themselves as the moral guardians of Southampton who always had an issue with their clubs behaviour.

I joked the other day that if the lad had bought a Boro shirt from Sports Direct on the way up he would likely have just been taken for a fan and simply told to move on.

Seems they actually allegedly tried it elsewhere.

That’s what they’ve pleaded guilty too

I don't understand how the appeal will be just 1 day, given that it's to a completely different panel ... surely they'll need as long as the original to hear the evidence and judge it in order to decide if the punishment is proportionate?

Ha'way Hull
Unless there was some procedural error that makes it necessary to do justice, it will not be a rehearing. It will be a review of the original decision. The focus will be on the decision that was made and the reasons given for it rather than this bit of evidence, that bit of evidence, and t'other bit of evidence.

Given the misconduct appears to have been admitted, it is unlikely that there was much in the way of evidence anyway. The basic purpose of evidence is to resolve factual disputes. Where there are admitted or agreed facts, the decision maker applies the rules to those facts.

If the only issue is the proportionality of the sanction, then they should be able to hear all the arguments and render a decision pretty sharpish. I've done much more complicated appeals in less than a day, with a decision given then and there.

Obviously it is not my decision to make, so my views are irrelevant. But I don't envy Southampton's legal team. It is likely that they will have to convince 2 out of 3 of the arbitrators (who will all be barristers, solicitors, or professional arbitrators) that the decision was one that no reasonable decision maker could have made. It won't (shouldn't) be enough to convince the arbitrators that they themselves might have made a different decision in the shoes of the original decision maker. A tricky task.

Well, to my mind, if Hull have not been training with the possibility of this outcome and therefore they would be facing Boro, then they have no been forward planning and any disadvantage is down to their own lackadaisical attitude.
They'll have had to plan for 2 matches up until last night, that is definitely a disadvantage

Wow. As much as that ...

I can see what you mean but there is still a large percentage of fans on that forum saying they’ve been hard done by and playing a victim in the eyes of Gibson and the EFL. Granted it’s shit for them but they need to be looking at their own club, although they’re likely frustrated and lashing out as they’ll rightly miss out on the premier league money
Just wait until next season when everywhere they go home fans will be calling them out as cheats. Away fans too at St Mary’s
