Southampton spying compendium thread


Poor decision imho just shows that if you spy on opposition teams you basically get an early advantage over the teams who proceed to the final, as Southampton now know they’ll be in the championship and the loser of the final don’t yet know

That’s more hours and days Southampton could be making Championship level signings as opposed to the potential loser of the final, I dread the amount of teams that will now spy on the opposition

Pretty pathetic from the EFL really and just shows that cheats prosper in the modern game

That's 100% how it will play out. Otherwise Southampton would have a case against efl for not being allowed to appeal in line with published regulations. This will all have been agreed today, appeal tomorrow and the 4 points disappear.

An Independent Disciplinary Commission has today expelled Southampton from the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs after the Club admitted to multiple breaches of EFL Regulations related to the unauthorised filming of other Clubs’ training.

In addition, the Club has received a four-point deduction that will be applied to the 2026/27 Championship table, alongside a reprimand in respect of all the charges.

The effect of today’s order is that Middlesbrough are reinstated into the 2026 Play-Offs and will proceed to the Play-Off Final against Hull City. The final remains scheduled for Saturday 23 May, with the kick-off time to be confirmed.

Southampton was first charged on Friday 8 May, with further charges issued on Sunday 17 May in relation to additional breaches during the 2025/26 season. Those additional charges arose from matters identified after the initial proceedings involving Middlesbrough were initiated.

Southampton admitted breaches of Regulations requiring Clubs to act with the utmost good faith and prohibiting the observation of another Club’s training session within 72 hours of a scheduled match. The admitted breaches concern fixtures against Oxford United in December 2025, Ipswich Town in April 2026 and Middlesbrough in May 2026.

Southampton has a right to appeal the Commission’s decision in accordance with EFL Regulations and the parties are working to try and resolve any appeal on Wednesday 20 May. Subject to the outcome, it could result in a further change to Saturday’s fixture.

The EFL is now in discussion with all three Clubs regarding the implications of today’s decision and will make a further announcement in due course.

The Commission’s full written reasons will also be published in due course.

Boro raised it on the Thursday 7th and Southampton got charged on Friday 8th. So it looks like they've admitted to the Oxford and Ipswich spying that I presume were the later charges on Sunday 17th May.

It makes you wonder how many other teams they've done it to that nobody apart from Southampton is aware of. I can't see them getting anywhere with the appeal tomorrow given what they've already been caught doing and admitted to.

The big thing though is that they only admitted to doing it times they didn't win as if they admitted it for games they did win a massive can of worms gets opened and every club in the Championship will immediately take them and the EFL to court.

Id say its the league thats been most wronged. if Oxford or Ipswich has noted and reported it earlier, Southampton wouldnt have been in this position fullstop. Now theyve been put in a position of not being able to make any decision that doesnt piss of someone 😂
