Because of the precedent it would set. If the “saints” are found guilty of what they’re accused of then it can be argued they used unapproved techniques to gain an advantage up to and including their participation in a knockout competition for explicit gain. They deserve to be pushed out of the competition if foind guilty

No, they’d say ban the cheating, morally bankrupt tw*t. And it’s the same here- whether it’s helped them win the tie or not is besides the point. At the point they decided to do it they clearly thought it would give them an advantage. The only fitting punishment for any serious cheating is to be slung out of whatever competition it took place in.

The club has released the following statement...
Middlesbrough FC notes the decision of the Disciplinary Commission not to permit the club to intervene in the proceedings brought by the EFL against Southampton FC.

The club regrets that outcome, given we are directly affected by the matters under consideration and hold relevant factual evidence as to the events in question and their competitive impact.

The conduct at issue, namely the observation and recording of our training session ahead of a fixture of such significance, goes to the heart of sporting integrity and fair competition. In these circumstances, the only appropriate response is a sporting sanction which would prevent Southampton FC from participating in the EFL Championship play-off final.

We remain hopeful that the EFL, as regulator, will pursue such a sanction before the Disciplinary Commission in order to protect the integrity of the game, safeguard all member clubs, and deter any attempt in the future to obtain an unfair and unlawful advantage in pursuit of promotion to the Premier League.

The club reserves all its legal rights.

Do you know when this panel is set to meet mate, because to me its straight forward.I dont trust the EFL to make what should be a given.

I'm starting to think that's what might happen (not sure why, just a feeling in my water) ... I'd be fine with that, I just want to see Southampton denied promotion as a result of their stupidity ... I'm not arsed if 'boro get to play the game or not, though I feel they do have good grounds to.

I think its likely theyve been doing it for months so too many wronged opponents. Teams potentially missing out on playoffs like Wrexham for example. Easier to just go the route of Hull up

Beyond me why Boro think they should play any part in disciplinary action between the EFL and Southampton , two separate legal entities.

As far as I'm aware (and I could be wrong cos I've read all sorts), it starts (or started) today with a conclusion reached by Tuesday.

The statement is a joke. Ultimately, they’ve fucked up over 210 minutes of football.

yeah, I think it'll be a pattern on behaviour which will come to light in due course opening an almighty can of worms - you can see Wrexham in particular being all over that given their ownership and them getting beat twice (humped in the fixture in April)

That’s the logical outcome, Southampton deserve t be punished Boro would find it hard to prove they were affected in a detrimental manner when they played as well in that first half as they have in months.
 
The fact they've specifically stated what they see 'the best option' makes me think that definitely won't be happening here
