Southampton spying compendium thread

I mean this is a no win for the EFL

If they do nothing and Southampton win and get to the final then Boro will be legally all over it

I mean whatever happens the guy wont be very poplar
Points deduction, sufficient that Southampton drop out of play off spots. Wrexham to play Boro, albeit that's not how the placings/fixture would have worked, assuming Boro agree to that.

Would have to act sharpish considering 1st leg is tomorrow

Ahhh thanx
Aye mate. They need to, cos again if they void the game after, Boro are disadvantaged unless of course they give Boro a pass to the final. Maybe the EFL keeps it's powder dry and hopes Boro win and get through, if they don't then just give Boro the win, and say Southampton have been expelled. That way Boro have had to play their two games and so don't have fresher players that the opponents in the final.

Wrexham players probably already on holiday. If he is a Southampton employee and everything is true then they need to be punished so either kicked out of the play offs or they postpone the game and play it as a single tie at Riverside during the week and Southampton are punished by losing their home advantage.

Even if the match goes ahead tomorrow and boro win they could say it would have been more if Southampton didn’t know their tactics. EFL just be hoping boro go through.

Aye, per my post above. Maybe EFL keeps stum, let them play the two games but boot Sompton out if they win.

Whatever happens this will be the first case since they brought the rule in so they will be setting a precedent for anybody doing it going forward

So if its just a fine lots of clubs may think it will be worth it in the future
They will be idiots if just a fine. The legal and financial ramifications are colossal. Saints should be booted out of the play offs + a big points deduction for next season. This is about as bad as it gets in terms of cheating, short of bribing match officials or opponents players.

Can’t see Southampton just accepting that if they win though, then you have the mess of a possible court case or whatever it would be just before the play offs. EFL will be praying to every possible god tonight that boro win the tie then they can give a 3 points deduction for next season suspended for 2 years or something.

Personally if everything is true I’d kick Southampton out, the rules allow it and everything else is opening up a big messy can of worms.

My guess is Southampton will deny any involvement and that, although an employee of theirs, was acting as a 'lone wolf'' without their permission or knowledge. He'll be sacked (although with a big payoff to keep schtum). This probably gives the EFL an excuse to only fine them unless they have irrefutable evidence that Southampton were aware and had sent him there.

Personally I think Southampton should be kicked out of the play offs + points docked next season. It's easy and fully supported by the regulations.

Couldn’t resist that one 😂

Southampton are gonna be mad, spending all that money just to get reports on their own club

To be honest, i dont know why this is even a rule. If everyone just had the free reign to "spy" on each other (to an extent**) then theres no advantage.

**i dont mean planting bugs and hidden cameras.

Fully agree if everything we are told is true, even if as @wackyjacky says and he claims to have acted as a lone wolf. It’s just the EFL so I can’t imagine they’ll be as quick and strong. For me 6/9 points and kicked out of the play offs is probably right, you can’t be spying on other trains training sessions and if it’s anything less like suspended and I was in the play off finals I’d be hiring a whole team of spy’s to be looking at the opposition.

Sounds like there's someone from within the Southampton club have blown the whistle on it to Boro and admitted that they've done it to other clubs this season. If that's true then they could end up in League One rather than the Premier League
