Wolverhampton Wanderers v Sunderland AFC 3pm Match Thread

Looking at Dan’s defenders on the way home I might be showing my age, but I don’t get this at all. It’s funny how attitude change with time.

I grew up watching football in the 1970s when:
a) most players had long hair;
b) we generally tolerated a lot more physicality. For example, a two foot out of control tackle through the man that got a touch on the ball wouldn’t get a red card, it would get a “great tackle” shout. And a full-blown right hand to the chin would probably not get a red card either, only a booking. Not even that if the ref thought the recipient deserved it.

But hair pulling, behave. It would’ve been beyond the pale. In a less enlightened age described as something that only a dirty Italian or a girl might do. Maybe, to try to be more 21st century, I’d call it something a six-year-old might do. Do people seriously want to make it acceptable?
This ref has previous having sent somebody off for Man Yoo this season. This time he thought the challenge was fine, but VAR, who will have known he has previous for red carding for hair pulling, sent him to the screen. The ref is then in an impossible position having eyes on him with that previous red card.

This is also the 2nd red card given to a centre back for the offence on the same striker, with Michael Keane also seeing red for Everton. The same ref missed a horrific foul on an Everton youngster in the same game.

That striker now exaggerates every challenge from behind if he feels a tug on him and goes down screaming and holding his hair out to simulate the pulling.

This is an embarrassing mess of the FA's own making

Time for Reggie to go for me. Too late in making subs. The usual negativity, sitting back until they scored and then the players deciding to try again. Had enough.
We were down to 10 men man , what the he’ll are you talking about? He went for it with the 3 subs. Honestly some of our posters on here are woeful.
I’m referring to forest if you read previous posts mate
ok sorry my bad

You're telling Sunderland supporters that supporting this club isn't for them.
Well if they whinge and moan, when we’ve held our own in the Premier League, maybe I have a point.
The poster I said it to, it’s sorted.

You can criticise me for that, no bother but the Miss Sunderland comment.. unnecessary and a low blow

Clearly the sending off had a massive influence on the game and Ballard needs to think long and hard about doing that. Daft behaviour that I last saw when I was at school.

As for Le Bris - it wouldn't surprise me if he was close to being peddled as the season has been allowed to drift when we should be in that last European spot at least. It doesn't matter how close we are to it - we wont get it playing like we are and its a massive opportunity lost. You should make changes from a position of strength not wait for it all to collapse and thats why I wouldnt at an eyelid if Le Bris was peddled and we got someone like Fariola.

Le Bris has done brilliantly to get us promoted and stabilised us in the PL but we cant sit for him to lose control next season and see is collapse in a heap. Too much at stake here. He has done his job in my opinion and I couldn't give e a shit what the external noises and pundits are saying about it being incredible to think like that. They dont support Sunderland and couldn't give a shit how we do. I do care and do give a shit how we do.

Sometimes I think our fans are too soft and not hard enough to do what it takes to build a top side and being ruthless is a trait that we will have to get used too to succeed. I think that our owner wont be shy in being ruthless.
Neither do I, given he’s proven countless times recently just how ruthless he can be.

I followed the same journey with the seat swings.
Genuine question, when we got promoted via the play offs, what were your expectations for this season?
My expectations were simple.

Survive I'm sure I've said on here I would have took 1 point off 18th start of the season.

It's not about that for me yes we have had a fantastic season in relation to what everyone expected us to have.

Yes it's been brilliant with so many highs.

I also think Europe would absolutely destroy us we don't have anywhere near the square depth of strength for that albeit it would be unbelievable

That been said there are far to many cracks appearing and glaring in the face for me to just ignore them.

I genuinely do believe RLB has taken us as far as he can I also genuinely believed that Luciano Volcano was imperative to our early success as it's to much of a coincidence with the stats out there since he's gone.

I don't believe RLB has enough about him to see changes in games more times than not the amount of times we have been crying out for 2 up top when chasing the game and he's brought a defender on or went like for like subs is truly baffling.

That been said I also appreciate he is learning also but you have to be able to adapt and be willing to change he has shown absolutely zero direction for this.

I believe we will genuinely struggle next year as RLB has made it as clear as day he will not change his tactics for anyone - it wouldn't be as bad if he had a Plan B if plan A fails but he does not have that.

We are so predictable to set up against week in week out and you can see teams have done their research on us.

Yes, but I don't think Ballard meant to pull his hair, his shirt, yes, but not his hair.
Maybe. I suppose the difference is that in the 1970s pulling a shirt would’ve been seen as a bit “continental” as well, and would probably have got you a good solid elbow in the gob, blind eye turned by the ref. It was probably a better game then.

Mind you, even now, you are not officially allowed to pull the shirt. So it’s a bit of a shit defence. It’s like saying I didn’t mean to punch him in the face I meant to punch the ball.

You get found out quick in the premer league as we all know, I do kind of wonder however why Luciano Volcano hasn’t be replaced 🤔

Yes, I agree. Shirt pulling is rubbish but it's constant and it's not a red card offence. And it's pretty clear Ballard's intention was to grab his shirt.

I agree with so much of your post about survival and expectations.

I think I diversvy because, we and nobody, knows how much influence Vulcano had.

And you contradict yourself a lot
“You believe RLB has taken as far as he can”

Why can you not just leave it as, in your words “we’ve had a fantastic season”

🤣

I'm guessing you had more to add and also remove Janey.

Brobby would have 20 free kicks a half for and against him if shirt pulling was penalised

Havent we won the most points from losing positions? We definitley have a plan B

We don't though.

It's always been the same plan and tactics.

Let it be said for the record I genuinely hope I'm proven wrong if RLB is here next season which I think he will be - but I really don't think I will be I really think we will struggle unless he changes formation/tactics.

This style of football will not work for another year we are seeing that now

You think we are wide open now,it'd be a disaster with 2 up top.
