SAFC - Fan Ban & Ticket Cancellations

It comes from the fan base too. Any time the echo (or any social media outlet) posts criticism of the club 95% fans jump to the defence on the club instantly

Loads of my mates do too.

It's the attitude that 'if it doesn't effect me , then it's just people whinging for no reason "

It's prevalent throughout society

This is the thin end of a wedge, if might not effect the majority today but it will tomorrow.
Despite the contradictory rhetoric they are already losing sight of who we are.

We just don’t treat people like that.
He said it himself this is not London, there is not a never ending pipeline of customers
This is a limited community in size and resources lose sight of that at your peril
What happens if the club come out and say this is the policy and this is why they're doing it. Not going to change our mind and other football clubs are also doing similar. Which is potentially the truth to all of this.

What then? Because its possible they do that and the majority of people wouldn't really care because it doesn't affect them.

They lose the clubs USP… the community as a whole, the connection

100% correct

Absolutely spot-on mate. It’s a sad situation for me but we appear to have attracted/converted a decent amount of I’m alright, selfish folk - just look at this thread, as you say.
It’s not what I always regarded Sunderland fans as. It may be off topic but just popped in my head - under Denis Smith we went to Villa away and the West Midlands plod were as obnoxious as usual - they kettled us all in with only a couple of away turnstile open (bearing in mind this was months after Hillsborough). I was a 14 year old and getting a bit crushed - a load of blokes were lifting young uns above their heads and letting them get in ahead of them.
After the game, a lad and his little ‘un (I think around 5ish) were walking out, the fatha walked on the road, as opposed to the path and was immediately dragged to the other side of the road, surrounded by German Shepherds whilst his little bairn as crying his eyes out. Every Sunderland fan in the vicinity to man, looked after the little un and refused to move until his dad was released.
Not sure that would happy these days.

As I say, not particularly relevant to the thread but I’m not sure we have the sense of community we used to have. I remember Swindon away, last game of the season once when a lad on out bus got a Mascot’s ticket and we were in three sides of the ground!

These are different times nonetheless the community you relate to was there for all to see in the trafalgar squares, it’s there in fact that the sons and daughters and grandchildren of those days are still going to the match.

The very real danger is you cut that chain.

We may sell more shirts in Asia, but with no passion no identity (think Sunderland til I die’) there is no brand…. Not when you are a secondary city in the north east of England the poorest part of the country.

Whilst the ticket office, as we speak, are working through the waiting list in numerical order selling any remaining tickets to new customers, leaving everyone trying to downgrade from corporate with no ticket for next year.

Just one of many individual instances noted on this board of ticketing policy NOT putting fans-first.

Certain peoples credibility is being undermined here (and we all recall how quickly Methven and others saw their stock fall when it was seen that they considered our fans to lack an understanding of the business)

Very true mate. Think of me, an individual who never saw himself not having a season ticket until a time when I was too old to attend (or died in my seat!), offering another say 30 years of custom, being overlooked for a new customer who is unlikely to stick around when the going gets tough in a few years.

You don’t need to understand business to see that’s a very unwise commercial decision to take. Unless you gambling on constant growth and success; which indicates you don’t understand the history of SAFC!

Then there are my grandchildren who I would have potentially become Sunderland fans following on from me; which now isn’t going to happen

I hate this story whilst totally understanding where you’re coming from.

This is what happens when a business sees people as numbers on a spreadsheet.

SAFC have, for many years, taken for granted the hardcore support whom they then rely on when the shit hits the fan.

It’s happening again right now - talking about global support whilst treating existing fans like shit.

I’d hoped for better from this ownership. More fool me.

Anyone else heard about the Bradley Lowery box???

Heard from 2 unconnected sources that the club have “withdrawn” it & possibly sold it ????

My reply to both was …..

Can’t be true …..

Unbelievable if so ….

🤔
Just been told the same.

If it’s true then I have to start to think that there’s a wider agenda here.

No right-minded business would repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot like this unless they had some kind of strategy to piss-off / reduce the % of ‘normal’ fans / customers - and increase the corporate.

One week Burwell is insisting they won’t lose touch with the core fanbase, the next week they’re doing as much as they can to achieve that very thing.
