Newly promoted side

Were favourites to go down.
Got a new team in and gelled.
Been tested with injuries.
Had the AFCON to deal with.
Bonus of beating the filth twice.
Safe with plenty to spare.
Talk of Europe with only 5-6 games remaining.

Set up was defensive, but worked. Then got the clamour for more attacking, with people thinking we'd be just as sound defensively. Leaked a few goals last couple of games as a result and now people want the manager out.

I've just burst out laughing
Well said People need to grow the hell up with this “sack him now” business

What we've achieved with probably the second lowest wage bill in the PL this season has been incredible. If anybody wants le bris out theyre completely ignorant of what hes working with and against.

Hes done a great job. Hes not perfect (I think he could have handled last night better) but hes as good a manager as we could hope for.

The bi-polar nature of some Sunderland fans. Having said that, I don't even think it was more attacking football last night.

We just couldn't cope with their very well organised high press and players made a load of basic errors. It's only been that bad twice this season in my opinion though (for 30 mins against Brentford being the other). Still a great season overall.
Threads entitled “ Have we been sussed” etc , the absolute entitlement of social media is hilarious.

I think a big part of it is how spoiled we have been at home this season, because generally we have been brilliant.

Add into that , we have 10 to 15k new "fans" and even more watching on TV who would have been on days out to Whitby eating fish and chips while we were playing the likes of MK Dons at home.

Yes, last night was awful, but FFS can we at least avoid burning everything to the ground because of it?

Posts about players needing to be booted out and never playing for the club again, the manager needing to go after the game last night etc are ridiculous.

Remember, we were massive favourites to go down. Pretty much no pundit or fan gave us a prayer of staying up, yet we've survived at a canter and surpassed any and all expectations. Realistically, we thought results like Forest would be common place but they have thankfully been very rare.

I appreciate people have short memories but if any fan had been offered what we got this season, we'd have all snapped arms off for it.

It would be nice to keep what has by all accounts been a rare off day in perspective and not let it cloud over what has been a superb, and completely unexpected, season overall.

Anyone wanting Regis out is mag levels of delusional
Clearly not. There's merit to both sides of this argument. No point getting at each other's throats for their opinions, and I haven't seen anyone smashing up city centre or punching horses.
BTW anyone considered the virus that's been mentioned? Might have something to do with performances / concentration levels / selections. I just had it, thought I was gonna die.

It’s still been a brilliant season and we have exceeded all expectations but let’s not pretend last night was a total embarrassment and a joke. The players didn’t try a leg. Xhaka was the main culprit couldn’t be arsed to run and track back it was a shameful performance
Normally im a bigger picture guy. I remember some of the hammerings in the Championship like Blackburn, Stoke, Swansea etc and thought young squad, unsettled management these can be treated as an aberration.
Last night however was different. Marking was shocking, not stopping the crosses equally bad, no pressure on the ball. Forest defended like a pack of dobermans last night even at 4 nil up. We defended like sloths. On ketamine
I dont even care about Europe but if we finish 6th or earned more than 58 pts then this would be our best season since the 50s. Surely thats worth fighting for.

I've just had a little scan the morning after the night before to see the lay of the land, expecting people to be shrugging their shoulders a bit or maybe lolling at the shit show performance and how it was a crazy spell of football where everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. Instead we've got people analysing the fck out of the game and picking apart our manager who has in fact been an absolute marvel all season along with pretty much all of the players.....

What a set of absolute pratts some of our supporters are man.

We’re more a newly assembled side than a newly promoted one. Only four players started last night that were in last seasons squad and arguably two of them wouldn’t start if everyone is fit.

We’ve done brilliantly this season but there’s no way that side should be getting turned over 0-5 by Forest.
