Luke O'Nien

He runs off Hume into the gap though. Hume is just as much to blame, if not more for the winner imo.
More for me (not that I'm twisting). He's the one with eyes on the runner from start to finish. Closes that gap to O9 and theres nowhere for Abrahams to go. Out for a goal kick.

Same for me.

Hume could have had it.

No one was really to blame for yesterday. Like Xhaka says.. we lose as 1 team.

There is no doubt that if Ballard had started the game partnering O9 or Alderete we would not have conceded those goals the way we did.

O9 is not a dominating CB if anything he is more like Alderete

O'Nein was ball watching for the first goal leaving their top scorer with the freedom of the back stick in acres of space
No he wasn’t. He’d moved to the middle (on purpose) to cover a low/thrashed cross into the middle. Thats not ball watching.

It’s a decision. And 95% of the time, it’s the right one. Just not this time.

Also… ‘Back Stick’… Fullbacks job. Not a centre half’s.

Agree with the last part, not necessarily the first. I doubt Ballard affects their 1st, 3rd or 4th at all
When’s he getting put in the stocks to be publicly flogged then….??? 🤭
As soon as Diarra frees up a space

09 was a centre half and wasn't being pulled to the back post leaving the middle open as Rogers had waltzed past mukiele and if the ball had gone to him rather than the backpost everyone would have been slating 09 for being a CH and leaving the middle wide open.
He wasnt ball watching at all and it worries me some of our fans want to blame him so much they can't see what's happened

Ollie Watkins was Onien's responsibility or should have been, a centre back shouldn't leave his man unattended anywhere near the goalmouth. That first goal is down to O'Nein 100%. He had a poor game shit happens.

And second
That goal was great. The ball whipped in with some speed.
All their goals were good tbh. Good movement from lots of players. The only goals which mistakes were made were our second and third.

Watch it again
It's 1 minute into the match. 09 is a centre half - Watkins is clever , but on another day if 09 goes back with him leaving the middle wide open for the run that Rogers made you'd be fuming for him getting pulled out of position!

You can't change what happened and no doubt either Diarra or Sadiki was responsible for Rogers not O'Nein who was quite poor after several decent performances.

I think it’s possible for someone to have room for improvement without that meaning they’re crap etc.

I think O’Nien’s general positioning for the first goal was ok. He was in the right area, and reasonably close to his man.

The problem I feel was with his body shape, which I think was due to him arriving in the right position a little late. He was kind of trying to get around the back of the attacker, body at a diagonal, somewhat off balance. He’s not the biggest guy anyway, but his head was like 5 feet off the ground when the ball was headed into the net.

I think a better defender would’ve been tight with the attacker, stood tall or jumping. It still might’ve been a goal but it would’ve been more difficult for the striker.

None of this makes Luke a shit footballer or a bad person.
