Israel / Iran - updates, no politics

I'm not Starmer's biggest fan, but it's baffling how people can still have sly digs at him on this issue.

6 to 8 weeks ago, it was open fine. Starmer is blameless for the current shit show...

I dunno if this helps at all but I work in public opinion research/ political strategy and run a lot of focus groups - there’s people who viscerally dislike Starmer and won’t accept anything he does as being good . But tbh the vast vast majority of people - even those who dislike him as PM - are with you and support him on this issue and can see it’s good he kept us out.

  • The US has intercepted and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship attempting to get past its blockade of Iran's ports, Donald Trump says
  • The ship was given "fair warning to stop" in the Gulf of Oman but refused, so the navy "stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room", Trump says, adding the ship is in US "custody"

Maybe some of us don’t watch soaps.

I don't think I've ever watched EastEnders in my life - I hate soaps, and EastEnders sounds like a particularly depressing one. But that doesn't mean I fail to see the humour in someone producing a video in which footage of the Strait of Hormuz is manipulated and music added, so that it mirrors the opening credits of EastEnders, to poke fun at the fact that the whole Hormuz open/shut thing has started to resemble a soap opera.

And yes, I know the whole situation is part of a war, and the fact that the Strait's not freely open as it used to be is causing worldwide problems, and that means it's serious stuff, but that's why some people are poking fun at some of the farcical aspects of it - it's a "if you don't laugh, you'll cry" situation. Or gallows humour, if you like.
