Luke O'Nien

Your choice of words is telling tbh. I'm pretty sure RLB isn't picking him to see if he needs "peddling" and seen as the lad has been here so long, that's what you think of him?
Hes nowhere near good enough for where the club is now and where it wants to be. Not even close.

Hes been a fantastic servant, will be the main name associated with our revival, but thats it for me now. Its time for him to get his send off and appreciation shown. We need better than him.

I haven't claimed anything. I said he lost his man 3 times, which is a fact. You started blaming other people for not protecting him and taking over.

Why are we protecting him? Hes either good enough to play or hes moved on. He has to pull his weight.
He lost his man 3 times?
It's not black and white like that.
First goal he's got his aye on Rogers who has ran through and thinking the ball would be passed to him
I'm fairly sure you're not blaming him for the second - great goal and cross
Third goal he had to stay with Watkins - couldn't leave him and chase rogers
Fourth is a very tired defender at the end of a game. Things happen

He lost his man for the 2nd goal. 1 second before he scored they are stood side by side and he falls asleep.

So it's all O'niens fault that the manager picked him and put him up against Watkins?
No blame goes to the manager whatsoever.

I think we're being a bit selective here.
It’s his f***ing job man you’re trying to blame the manager for not marking someone 3 times! If you follow my history I defend onien to the hilt all the time bit your been absolutely ridiculous here. So no player is at fault ever because the manager picks them to play

Eh first goal Watkins is his man !!! He’s marking him then Watkins just drops off him as onion is ball watching ! It’s got nowt to do with Rodger’s ! Who’s been tracked by someone else !

The man who never lets us down etc etc let us down today. Like he did with his red card after 2 minutes at Manchester City, meaning he got a 3 game ban for the start of AFCON when we needed him.

Luke makes the absolute most out of what he has. His effort and his desire are rarely matched. He's a good pro footballer.

IMHO he just hasnt got the physical presence that is needed at this level. He's not far short, but just isn't a top half PL CH.

Ballard is just bigger, stronger and more solid.

You said you loved him after the Derby and you aplogised to him. Do you not love him now ?

Have you changed your mind again ?

I mean how fickle can you get

I've never said O'nien hasn't been at fault but the singling out of him while everyone else gets off scot free is ridiculous.

Answer me this, if he was so bad and costing us goals why did the manager leave him on?

Add into that - his situational awareness, positioning and decision making.

He's good enough to be a squad player to rotate in cup games etc. But he just doesn't cut it to play regularly at this level for me.

Because Alderete was fucked probably. You admitted yourself that he should have came off at half time.

I don't disagree we can and will have better players, of course. Your post here is miles more affectionate than some of your previous posts about him.

Look at the bench, mate. The options have been slim at times and he's gone above and beyond his (presumed) capability (he was signed in L1 as an attacking midfielder). I'm sure by the start of next season he won't be in our starting squad.

It's very, very rare a player like him comes along who does what is asked and stays the course. Is he PL quality? Probably not for any other team but he's done his job. Dragging him is so obvious.

Think RLB looked at his team last week who played well and won the game and he is very loyal, so he gave this team a chance today and yeah 09 was had on toast by Watkins today we can all see that but that doesnt make him a bad player cos last week he kept the Spurs forwards at bay and against the visitors after his mistake he was class and a lot of people said it on here.

Sure in time he wont play but today RLB chose him and it didnt work but again doesnt make him a bad player
Can't understand sarcasm ^
Changes his mind every week ^

Not really. This division is absolutely unforgiving. We have done exceptionally well this season but if we are ever complacent we will struggle. We need 11 players on the pitch able to compete. Last week going to the Spurs game I was worried to see O'Nien on the team sheet but he did fine. Today it was stark that he was out of his depth. We can ignore that as he's a great lad and has a great attitude but I doubt the club will. And if you don't want to see fans debate the merits of individual players then don't come on a message board. It really is time to say thanks to Luke and move on.
Fans aren’t debating they are slaughtering 2 players in particular. And thank you but I will come on our message board to highlight idiots who react like this after a defeat
