Legends Way fan vote: choose the 14 legends

Everyones having a go at Jill Scott, but least she's actually from here.

Defoe is much much worse imo, what did he exactly do? He played a couple seasons, one being the relegation to the Championship and the dark years. No way is he in the top 14 legends ever for the club.
He's done far more for the club than Jill Scott. On and off the pitch.

Luke O'Nien with 324 appearances and counting for SAFC would be ahead of Jill Scott in any sensible list.

I really wish they had plans for a separate area to honour the notable lasses in Sunderland. In the grand scheme of SAFC's history none of the woman are relevant so it devalues the idea having a token gesture involved.

A separate area to celebrate and honour the woman would have made far more sense and then we could have all got behind that idea.

If ‘legend’ is defined strictly by success on the field than most of the players should be early 20th century and loads of that 14 are just incorrect. Broadening the concept to include wider achievements like Quinn’s chairmanship and Defoe’s Bradley stuff are fine with me.

There is not a metric in the world that has Jill Scott on that list. Aye she’s from the area and speaks well of Sunderland… and? By that logic get Jonathan Wilson on there.

I think the Bradley Lowery stuff gives Defoe a decent case to be on there (on top of being a good player for us) - WAY more than JS.

Never get the love in Murray receives, nothing against the bloke and the stadium etc made me come round to him, but he held the club back for years on the pitch in my memory of growing up
Time has been extremely kind to bob Murray. Arguably the only real protests ive seen at the sol have been against him. He was very unpopular with a large section of our support.

He does deserve great credit for the stadium and the academy tbf. But he has the Murray gates.

Don't get me wrong Scott shouldn't be there be either, but not sure I agree with the Lowery stuff. If it was a Top 20/30 maybe but there's players like Bobby Gurney who is our greatest goal scorer being missed. It might not mean anything to us because it's before our time but stats like that should entitle you to a legends spot imo.

imo it should've been 1 player per decade, with a few odd bods here and there where deserved.

Echo the sentiments of most on this thread.

There’s not a snowballs chance in hell these were the top 14 names mind, even factoring in a higher % of younger voters, unless it’s been taken over by bots or mags. Genuinely laughed out loud when Scott and Defoe were announced.

If RAWA are going to the club then we should be asking to see the numbers.

Bob Murray was a surprise inclusion tbh.

Buchan should have been in there. Absolute legend.
Buchan is in there

Put him Carter, Gurney, Campbell and Halliday in my vote. All the goalscorers!!!

Halliday still has the record for fastest to 100 goals for a club even if the media wants to tell you it's Kane, Ronaldo and Haaland
Just realised no James Allen FFS. 😅

One of the club founders who also played in the team. I know he eventually split off and formed Sunderland Albion after a number of years but come on...

The only way they save this is by honouring some of the obvious names missing off the final list in another way.

The likes of Allen probably deserve their own statue or plaque so hopefully that is the idea.
He's on there now.

Has the vote ended I've just voted for mine.

What about George Clarke the architect? He speaks well of Sunderland, attends the matches and by all accounts elephant rock cafe down roker beach is excellent. Why doesn’t he have a place on Legends way?

Bob Gurney should have the North Stand named after him. He’s worth more than a stone as he’s the clubs leading goalscorer.

No Tom Watson (not the play off winner, the manager) is the biggest travesty.
We won 3 league titles under him. He then went and won another with Liverpool.
I would name the East Stand after him.
