30,000+ season tickets sold

There’s also a big difference from having your name on the list and actually parting with cold hard cash, I can imagine quite a few being invited to purchase and not go through with it.
This. Proper waiting lists give you an actual number in the queue and you have to renew it yearly.

There will be some households with 4 names on the list wanting just a parent and kid ticket.

I doubt the club would dare lie about the number of people on the waiting list.

If they got found out there would be hell on.

15,000 is very impressive.
In a way though...the waiting list means very little....its a name on a registration page and press send...them 15k aren't guarantees...they havent paid a deposit that could be lost if they dont purchase...I know a few already season ticket holders who have registered just to see how the registration worked who obvs won't be getting one.... never the less though there will be 1000's on the list that will get the chance to get one

When you apply for the waiting list it asks you how many tickets you want say a family of 4 each applies they would probably apply 4 times to give them a better chance. The system would say 16 people on the list but they only want 4 tickets

I’m sure there’ll be many more like you mate. I just find 15,000 a hard figure to believe based on our attendance history, last recent Premier League crowds, the fact that while our League 1 and Championship crowds were great we weren’t packing the place out, the fact that at the last count thousands of current holders hadn’t renewed yet. It just seems on the high side.
I agree it’s a tad on the high side imo. But absolutely class if true. Bigger fan base more revenue etc.

The waiting list has nowt to do with how many don’t renew though at this point. If 4k don’t renew the waiting list will reduce by 4k. Will be a lot of caveats on people waiting, like they want 3 together so pass up. Some peoples bluff will be called”I went in league 1 now can’t get one” will be offered and say they didn’t get offered etc.

Just hope we are pretty much sold out every game going forward

I’ll be staggered if that number is anywhere near accurate. Our Championship and League One crowds were tremendous and I say all the time our hardcore is the loyalist there is imo, but I don’t see at all how so many extra Sunderland fans are supposedly interested enough suddenly (especially when all of the current 38k haven’t even renewed) or that there’d be the tourist/student/casual fan demand in our part of the world willing to stump up the financial outlay season tickets now cost. Maybe different if we were fully established after years in this division and consistently doing well.
Bit on the low side if owt
We are massive

All true but even 15K expressions of interest aren't bad tbh. If even one third are prepared to stump up that's 5000.

Youd have to go back to 99-01 to see full houses every week?. This isn't a criticism of our fans, just the reality is when you see highlights of most games since, we haven't sold out. Saying all that I watched a video on the growth of average attendances over the past decade and west ham was top due their new stadium, they've gained a whopping 27k extra on their average attendance. Funnily enough the world's best supporters, Leeds attendances are up 14k in average in that time

Chances are they will be losing them next season 🤣

Are you new to supporting safc?

As an example, I’ve been happy doing 8-10 games a season for the last 20 years or so. I have a concern that if we continue our progress it’s going to get to the point where I am struggling to get a ticket, now we are threatening to be good, ie Europe a possibility. For that reason I’ve placed myself on the waiting list.
Yeah absolutely. I live 200 miles away but it’s even been on my mind about putting myself on the waiting list as it might be the only way I can actually attend games at the moment! What a time to be a fan. I imagine there will be a fair few like me in the same situation.

It’s fantastic to see the club doing so well and in a situation where we have a waiting list. I never thought I’d see the day tbh.

I know several exiles who normally make it to around 6 or 7 home games a season who are now all on the waiting list. The ability to pass your ticket to family and friends (or resale) means that it would be easier for them to buy a season ticket rather than go through the challenge of buying tickets for individual matches.

This in turn wouldn’t do our fanbase any harm. Someone getting to matches rather than watching on tv, and then recycling it to friends who also get to go - it all adds up to gradual expansion of demand, which could only be met by then expanding the ground.

Got a pal on Arsenal's and it's nuts how long it is. You have to pay like £30 a year too to maintain your place, and it can take 20 years to even get one

a lot of clubs charge per season to have your name on the waiting list... im sure leeds and liverpool charge £10 a season or something like that.

if we said its £5 to have your name on the list that 15k will suddenly become 2/3k

This. The club obviously doubt the demand is there long term or they'd be extending and not doing the legends way. Right decision to wait another couple of years.

Similar position for me, with the number of matches I can get to a season it hasn't made financial sense for quite a lot of years for me to get a season ticket as it has always been easy to buy home tickets, and even been possible to grab quite a few away tickets without problems.

Its now proving difficult to get tickets home and away, and when I do it means I am in a different part of the stadium each time, so getting a season ticket is becoming almost essential. It will mean I will try to get to more games, but will still miss quite a few of the evening kick-offs.

If I get offered a ticket, the final decision will be made when I see what tickets are available and what the cost of them is.
