Lee Johnson


Played some really good attacking football under him by League One standards but in general he was absolutely hopeless.

Completely unable to organise a defence which led to several of the most humiliating league results in our history and even without the likes of Clarke, Roberts and Batth arriving in January we really should have won the league that season at a canter.
 
The whole procession of shit managers we appointed in League One, until the appointment of Neil, was probably our lowest point ever. Johnson was as bad as any of them - in one season we got beaten 4-0 at Portsmouth, 5-1 at Rotherham, 3-0 at Sheffield Wednesday, beaten at home by Lincoln thanks to a Chris Maguire hat trick, and lost 6-0 at Bolton.

This was with a team who Alex Neil got promoted within a few weeks of arriving. At Bolton, we had Stewart, Neil, Clarke, Roberts, Pritchard, Patterson, and Hume in the squad. And lost 6-0.

Johnson was absolutely pathetic - as bad as it gets.

Lee Johnson left us 3rd. Alex Neil finished 5th. His tactical prowess for play offs was far superior, but the league form was still full of draws and last minute goals.

Think it’s also massively overlooked the masterstroke in getting rid of the useless weak Tom Flanagan and bringing in Danny Batthin the week before he was sacked.

Not sure about that. Bolton result was horrific and we were far too open at the back and reliant on kids without leadership on the pitch. But he set us on a better track than his predecessors in Parkinson and Ross and his football was far better.

The football under Alex Neil was dreadful, the Rotherham home game was one of the worst I’ve ever witnessed. However, it gets forgotten because we got promoted but his ppg ratio wasn’t much better than Johnson’s.
 
Controversial take but I think he was the beginning of our recovery. Very streaky but he did start getting some decent performances and used younger players before the disastrous run that saw him sacked. Simply couldn’t organise a defence and ultimately that sealed his fate.

Definitely better than Ross. He significantly underperformed with the squad he had.
