read that article and thought the same. says he loves playing as a six. would probably be giving up Champions League football to come here but he would be learning from Xhaka and in the direct view of whoever is England manager at that point.

I think I posted on here last summer that I thought he'd be a good loan signing having watched him for England U21's. Looked on a par with Anderson and Scott when he come on. That was before I knew we'd be signing the likes of Xhaka and the club had grander plans than loaning players.

Think he had a good Championship loan with Hull last season or the one before. Deffo EPL ready and home grown. Good attitude being prepared to move from Liverpool to get game time. Ticks a load of boxes I reckon.

He's playing in the Gothia Cup in Sweden this July mate. You can imagine that ain't cheap. Villa and Leicester used to scout all the local Northampton talent. Very few make it though. It's a cut throat business.

Think the Xhaka understudy is a difficult one as they basically won’t see the pitch unless Granit gets injured. Might be tough to sell that to someone like Morton. I’d be tempted to just get hold of squad cover on a year’s deal for that role before actually spending good money on a player ready to try to take the shirt off him in 27. A freebie who is homegrown to sit on the bench for a year would be ideal. Someone like Harry Winks would do for the (very limited) role.

Next year might be different with him being in the final year of his contract and 34...

Think they’d struggle to oust two from ELF, Sadiki and Diarra though. Maybe Rigg by then too. Think that 6 role is a super specific one and we should just go get cover who know the role - even if we don’t necessarily think they’ll play all that much.

He’s got another two years after this one IIRC. And while I’d expect him to slow down at some point, I’d anticipate that he plays every minute he can for most of next season at least. When we replace Xhaka I’d anticipate that we just straight up replace him. Don’t see an understudy getting many minutes for a while yet.
