Mags selling their stadium to themselves


This was very much a backs against the wall decision. They had no other option otherwise they faced a significant PSR breach in 25/26 and would have faced a possible 10 point deduction and transfer embargo.

It clears that issue but does not help them at all for next year. They will have to sell before they buy but lack of Champions League means they will have more want to leave than they can afford to sell. If they lose Bruno, Toe Nail, Gordon and possibly Hall they will generate a lot of money but the core of what has been their success will be gone.

To move forward they will have to replace them with better players which they can’t afford to do.

They gambled and failed. They needed to win either the PL or the CL with the money they spent and all they got was a Micky mouse cup.

The only way they break into the financial top 6 is if Spurs are relegated, and even then they might still have a smaller turnover.

They need to adopt a completely new strategy now. They need to go for young and exciting and realise they have been set back 4-5 years.

If I was them I would beg Speakman to come in and start them off.

The PIF lot have gambled and lost. I guess they will cut their losses next.
 
If the NUFC investment has cost a fortune with no real return and they want out of the football side. So if Saudis own the lease, who decides what can be built on the land? Say, for instance, the council were persuaded by an investment deal for housing on the site? So all they’d have to do is give the club notice to quit and demolish the carbuncle? They could built an out of town stadium on land fully owned by the other Saudi company, not the club. And they can set the rents to whatever they desire to any potential buyer of the club.

In theory this is exactly what could happen. A lot of it is caught up in the terms of the lease that now exists between the Saudi company that is subleasing the land to NUFC. I'm surprised more NUFC fans aren't worried about this. I'm very sure it was a PSR dodge however it has significantly weakened the position and value of the club.

I can only assume they haven't really understood the implication and/or just assume the Saudis will be their owners forever.

It is true they have spent a lot over a number of seasons now. The noises coming out from their exec certainly make it sound like they will be needing to sell and it was telling their most recent accounts for 24/25 season actually projected the cost of their recent transfer business for the next year or two at nearly 100m in terms of amortised transfer fees. Most clubs don't actually set out the projections of that for future seasons (although it can't be roughly worked out) so I do wonder why they've done that just now. On top of that their overall wage bill for 24/25 was 220m (it'll be far more now after their business last summer). A lot of that 220m in 24/25 will be non-footballing staff and one-time bonuses for a good finish that year of course but I do think they have added to their playing staff wage bill considerably over the last few years.

As you say, I think this summer will be huge for them in terms of needing to get their business right. If they do manage to sell well and buy well then that could be very well set as they only really need 2/3 quality players. If they get it wrong though then they could be even weaker next year with even fewer players of value to flog...

Therein lies the PSR workaround. The Saudi owners are like an octopus, fingers in a lot of pies.

Obviously they are creaming their pants over it as some sort of statement of intent, can feel the desperation coming off them
 
It’s becoming fairly obvious that the owners have little interest in Newcastle and are looking to check out in the not too distant future, with only a single Carabao Cup to show for themselves.

Still, at least the fans didn’t debase themselves by dressing in Saudi headgear or defending the indefensible.

Knox hydration is owned by a couple of ex UFC fighters. It’s a relatively small business. The journos are going on like it’s a game changer of course.
