Jared Gillet

Looks like that has happened with all refs as they all shit apparently, good throughout the careers promoted through the ranks, presumably because of good performances, hit top leagues and then almost overnight become shit.

Coincidence?

Or judged unfairly?

I know what I think 🤔
The point has been made several times, which you choose to ignore,is that the good line is set very low. Not surprisingly, because there are fewer and fewer candidates taking up the role.

Listening to the Roker report lads, the VAR (James Bell) has never referee’d a PL game.

I wonder whether a junior ref like him feels unable to overturn an established PL ref like Gilet? Given he appears to be a grade A c*nt, it wouldn’t surprise me.
The lad on VAR needs to take a big share of the blame as well like.

If he’s not refereed a prem game before then so fuck. Spineless as anything not letting Gillet know he’s made an error.

Well I think it’s because the whole way of assessing them is fundamentally floored and totally unfair.

A good game is never mentioned and if is is forgotten seconds later, a bad mistake is all over social media, podcasts etc etc almost immediately and then gone over and over again on boards like this and tv.

It’s quite frankly a ridiculous and unfair way to assess anyone.

The great man Mr Clough said years ago in a famous interview with John Motson we were treating refs ridiculously with the over the top scrutiny and it’s a 100 times worse now, he was way ahead of his time.

I do agree with you about less and less taking it up.

Who the fuck in their right mind would want to put up with the abuse they get for trying to give decisions to the best of their ability.

If the line is set very low when in your opinion was it higher? Perfectly fair question if your saying they are now at a low standard

The assessment procedure might well be flawed but that doesn't counter the argument that the standard is low. If all managers took the Clough line of no disputing decisions there'd be more taking up the role, refereeing would be easier which would lead to higher standards.

Keep up at the back. I've already responded to that query at #835.

The same VAR should be used for every round of fixtures. If there are two at the same time, then they’ll just have to wait and stop the clock or something.

The inconsistency is absolutely pathetic at this level and making a mockery of the sport

Let them take throw ins 10 yards further up

Let them take fee kicks wherever they wanted

That’s a few they can’t say “heat of the moment”

Even xhaka was having something to say to him

To be fair, very rarely are throw ins or free kicks taken from the right spot. Doesnt make it right but you watch every throw in. Its rarely called out.

Ball picked up, take a few steps. Chuck to a team make to throw, he takes a few steps.... then take a good run up.

Free kicks are the same. Pick the ball up, throw it a few feet ahead...

Absolutely does my head in. Should be so easy to stamp out

Thats not answering question. If you think the overall standing of officiating is low you should be able to point to a time in your opinion when it was higher. Do you think its just seems lower down the amount of scrutiny they are under now compared to years gone by?

there was a quite a few 50/50 shoulder charges that one minute he gave, the next minute he didn't. each one is a debatable decisions fair enough, but the lack of consistency means that he 100% got some of the wrong, as the same incident 5 minutes later he called the opposite way.
That doesn’t make any sense. The whole point of a 50/50 decision is that it’s right on the margin. So you would expect half of them to be given and half not given. That’s why they’re called 50/50. You can’t be “consistent” if by consistent you mean giving the same decision every time. The only way you could do that on a 50/50 decision is to give half a free kick for every one of them. Whatever half a free kick might look like.

The point been put to you is the way refs are judged unfairly means the level will always perceived as low.

Has been as long as I remember can’t remember a time when it was perceived as anything else.

And can’t envisage a time when it will be perceived as again else.

Because once again good games are ignored, mistakes remembered for years.

A ref could make 3 high profile mistakes in 3 games in a season have 35 good games and be perceived as a bad ref because that is how people assess them.

Once you have that ridiculous culture of assessing anything that way, you will never perceive anything as a high standard which is exactly where we at with looking at refs.
