Not renewing?

I've normally done the DD in the past but had the dosh available this time (even though it's gone up a lot) and decided I didn't want the hassle of checking it's gone out correctly each time, or worse still having to deal with our ticket office to rectify problems. Yes, I could have kept the money in a savings account instead and earned about £20 in interest but honestly the peace of mind is worth more.
Exactly that for me. My house is the only thing I've ever bought on "credit". I'd always rather know how much money I've got available. If it was like a £20k payment over 2 years or something so I could use an interest free option and max out an ISA and make good interest on it, then it would make sense. But £600 over 6 months in a savings account is making absolutely nothing. So I'd rather just have the peace of mind that it's gone, I can see it's out on my statement, and then I'm not worrying about some error f***ing it up one month

Assuming the £600 diminishes to zero over that period (ie you make the payments out of it), and interest is around 4%pa if you're lucky, the interest earned on that is going to be about £6, by my rough calculations.

Hopefully you are right with your 5% in the longer term. I wasn't really suggesting 20% increase every year was very likely but even this year's 20% and the same again next year might be too much for many. I expect I'll continue to suck it up though .
I was being a bit extreme but only as the NEW prices are still considerably higher than the renewals this season. It all depends if the club want to keep this tier system in place to rewards supporters who keep going every season. I posted about possible 2027/28 rises in another thread. It's actually less than 20% as the UBER is now just 12% less than then

For anyone wondering what next season's increase might be like, this is the NEW price this season at the top. The left table shows how much £'s the increase was this season and the right side shows what it could be next season. It's the same with the % with the bottom left being what it would be next season and what it was, bottom right, this season. You can see it would only be another 12% to bring it into line but you'd expect some increase on the price so it may well be another £5 to £15 on some prices but again all this is just pure guestimates as we'll have the extension in place by then 😉

Being able to use your resale balance when paying by direct debit knocked £61 off my season card so it's only cost me £600 (last season was about £580).

I usually miss 4 or 5 games per season due to work/holidays so I would expect my Resale balance will be a bit higher when it comes to renewal time this time next year so that should hopefully negate any price rise in 12 months.

It'll definitely help, although you can only put £100 towards it so there's a limit on how much it'll knock off

Less than £35 a game isn't that bad really.

It's a fifth the price of a top tier gig ticket these days.
Good point.

I was looking back at my old City Hall ticket stubs from the 70s a while back. Saw Led Zeppelin, fourth row from the front, for 75P in 1972. That was about the same price as getting into the Fulwell end back then. (The ticket for Wembley in 73 was a pound).

When you consider the experience of going to a match back then with today's facilities ..today ..a seat, bogs not over flowing, ability to get a beer, not getting hit with sharpened pennies etc...the increase to, say, 35 quid a game isn't too bad.

Then consider how much you pay to see top groups these days in comparison (and few who could match Led Zeppelin in their prime). You don't get anywhere near the front and pay hundreds. It is worse than it was back in the day, but more than a hundred times more expensive.

So all in all, football is still a better deal.

Just interested to gauge specifically if many people have decided not to renew their season ticket for next year due to the price rises? Or if there is a price point where you would say enough is enough?

Obviously other personal circumstances can influence a decision to renew (income/health/moving away), but it would be interesting to discuss specifically around the pricing.

Personally speaking, as long as I'm working and it remains affordable I expect I'll continue to renew but would probably draw the line eventually if they continue compounding far-above-inflation increases year after year (this year mine has gone from £460 to £590, an increase of 28%), and I'm sure many of our ST holders will be even less tolerant of continuous price rises.
Been going for over 60 years, whether employed or not, always scraped a few bob to go. This years was £376 , which isnt bad. However, if it goes beyond £500, that will probably rule me out. ( unless our government match the pensions in Denmark etc)

Yes mate I was at that Zeppelin gig and £1 for the 1973 Cup final aswel how times have changed

£190 a game for me and my boy last season, jesus when you look at it by game seems alot for what we get

I'll keep renewing whilst my dad is still here. Once he's gone who knows
I hope you've got plenty of years left together, mate. It's special going to the match with a parent and you realise that even more once it's over 😢.

£1 in today's money would only be £10.97 after inflation is applied from then til now.
Imagine FA Cup Final tickets now costing £11, man! 😳
