ID checks for away tickets

I don't agree with a ballot at all, but have a feeling that's where we are heading. The club have admitted that they are exploring the idea of memberships as well. I expect that next season, we might see some changes to ticketing - with some home tickets held back for people with memberships and possibly a small percentage of away tickets going to a ballot. I know that many other clubs already operate some kind of ballot system.

I honestly believe though that if the club implement a serious policy of clamping down on transfer of tickets with clear and serious punishments - i.e. removal of all points - then the phases will end up being a lot lower and fairer. I appreciate that we will never know the extent of the issue until this happens. But I'm just basing my opinion on the amount of people I know personally who get tickets for games in other people's names.

I know quite a lot of people who build points between family members as well - based on who is able to go. The PL / club seem to treat this the same as someone selling tickets on to strangers on Facebook groups. Cutting all of this out will definitely happen, it's just a case of when, if we manage to stay in the PL for any length of time.
In short

• I entirely agree they should clap down massively and in full on any number sharing so that people’s points totals reflect games that they themselves went to

• But once that is done there should be no ballot, it should remain the current points system, and the people with the points should get the tickets first, every week if they want them (but they wont, very few do every single game). For some people it’s not just a hobby it’s a way of life and if that means someone where it isn’t as important to them can’t go (like Mnemonic), that’s how it should be. Those people will get their chance for some games (but it won’t be the game of their choosing when they’re on low points, nor should it be, you have to do the hard yards first)

This is not true.

50% of those checks were random. As I’ve said many times before, selling on tickets is way more common than people think and you’re persistent denial of this fact should lead people to be suspicious of your motives. If you have any more accurate statistics to hand, I’m happy to look at them.

I was offered a couple for Arsenal for £50 each but couldn’t make it so passed. I mentioned it to an AFC mate who told me he wished he could get a ticket for that price.

Way to deflect when you’ve been made to look a bit silly.
Your 50% is not a statistic since a sample size of 10 is not mathematically sufficient to be statistically relevant in this case.

I have 34 points, 35 after Leeds. Attended every single one and never gave away or sold a ticket. ID check doesnt bother me.
Only issue I can think of is if they want to ID check my son who has no ID, dont want to take his passport to away game as a just incase. But happy if they checked mine every game.

Checks on under 16s shouldn't really be required as long as the adult they are travelling with is the correct person (if checked).

I agree with pretty much all of that. I'd also hugely oppose a ballot. I do think the club will monitor it over the next few seasons though. Absolutely no need to make changes now, fully expect demand will ease from next season onwards even if we stay in the PL for a prolonged spell and people will get their chance. The only thing the club will look at is if that doesn't happen. If you go to every game that becomes available, midweek at Southampton or somewhere, games like the fa cup tie at Bristol on an early Sunday afternoon, and you still never get to a point where you can break into getting tickets for the standard 3pm Saturday ones because the few points you get drop off, then there's a bit of an issue for younguns trying to get into going away, which we need them to do. But we're miles away from that stage

If we carry on progressing with signings etc then the demand won't drop off IMO. We have one of the best away followings in the country. Add in some kind of progression / success and the demand will only become greater.

Can't see it tbh mate. There's always been about 1000 who go pretty much every week. The fact that 3000 allocations often went to general sale before suggests a lot of people with pretty high points still did a lot of picking and choosing their matches. I don't think that will suddenly change. This season is the first back, there's a feel good feeling, we're being competitive in the league, we haven't been to these grounds in years (or ever). Said before, but if we get worse, people will start missing as many as they used to. If we stay midtable some will get bored and start picking and choosing again. If we get better it's Europe and the sheer expense and number of games means a lot will have to pick and choose. I might be wrong, time will tell, but I don't think there's suddenly been a huge shift and I think it'll start to ease

Putting a photo of his ID from his passport on his phone seems to be the solution mentioned on here.

because it's like people who've sat in the same seat at the club for 20 years.
You’ve literally just mocked people who go every week at the expense of other commitments. By your own admission you wouldn’t do that.

And then you want to be able to choose a game to go to instead of a those to whom it isn’t just a ‘nice day out’ - it’s a way of life and a complete obsession

My daughter has been with me on my Mrs (no) ticket.

Wonder what would happen in that situation.

Under very strict rules, if they were implemented then I'd imagine you would be denied entry and your daughter would be forced to leave with you if she is under 16.

Mental as she was unwell that day and no time to change over.

I get why it’s done but in some circumstances common sense should prevail.

The club mentioned a sanctions policy in the RAWA minutes. A search of AskSAFC doesn't bring anything up (much of it seems to be ChatGPT drivel which hasn't been proofread). The SAFC ticketing T&Cs also dont go into any detail.

I am not against ID checks but the ticket office need to be clear and transparent about what they are doing and expect from fans. With the England Travel Club all rules, T&Cs, cap numbers are fully published by the FA so you know where you stand but SAFC dont do this. A lot of the issues with ticketing the club could resolve with better communication.

If you're a no-show, you'll get picked for the next game you buy for. After missing Man City, I got picked for Brighton. After showing ID there, nothing since.
And that'll be the random compliance check to target the unknowns (ie not publicising to the world on FB ).
Those that are buying for every / most away games but not going them passing on to mates, so they can still collect points
